Hi Everyone-

Been ages since I've posted here- apologies.

I was listeing this morning to my Orfeo Beethoven 7 with Carlos Kleiber, and thinking the sound wasn't amazing, when I noticed that my deck was playing it as a CD. When I tried to switch it to SACD mode it kept telling me that it was not a Hybrid disc. Very frustrating. Have any of you had this problem with this or other discs?

Cheers
Ken

Not with that one but my Sony (XA9000ES) has done the same thing with other discs, by changing from "text" to "time" I can ususally get it to recognize that there is an SACD layer. Glad you mentioned this because, pain that it is, it's obvious this thing whose warranty expires soon MUST go in for service! I know this because I the same discs do play with no problem on another Sony (DVP999ES)

While reading your post, my first thought was: It's a Sony

;-)

Sorry, but if a Sony player has a problem playing a hybrid SACD, you can bet that the disc is not to blame.

There are many Sony users (including myself) whose machines start having problems with some hybrids, which progressively extend to discs that played fine before. If the problem rate becomes unacceptable, the laser assembly has to be replaced, which costs $200-300 if there is no warranty. Apparently all Sony SACD players use the same problematic part.

Hi,

I have also a Sony-Player (click on ma name and you'll see my equipment) and today, I listened to the SACD. I had no problems with it. Played in multichannel, no stopping, searching or something else.
Yes, it's a SONY, and I have this equipment since Oktober 2005. Till now, I had no problems with any SACD.

Greetings

Hi Joerg,

Of course not all Sony players have the problem, but if you read Audio Asylum, you'll see many users reporting it. It's a typical Sony problem, that other brands don't have.

Some people managed to reduce the dropout problems with hybrid SACDs on Sony players with the aluminium foil trick:
