Dear tream, i have finally been able to track down a copy of the Lyrinx Mozart string quintets set you reviewed AGES ago. Got a very reasonably well priced copy from an excellent marketplace seller on amazon.france for about 36 euros, but am.fr's own price was also pretty good. Just wanted to tell you that I agree totally with you, - have only played through once so far but it's a fantastic set, one of the most pleasurable SACD (set)s I've heard so far and, as you rated it, a dead-cert 5-5. Thanks for the tip.

For anyone else who's interested, go to amazon.france straight away and do yourself a favour!! (and i can recommend the marketplace seller, abeilledirect as well as am.fr itself).

Nucaleena, glad you finally obtained it, thought you had done so ages ago. One day I will give my own set of top classical SACD's and this will certainly earn a rosette. During a conversation that I had with the US distributor for EMMLabs (as you all may know, Ed Meitner, AKA EMMLabs, was instrumental in development of DSD-actually someone out there can probably tell the story much better than I can) Lyrinx uses Meitner equipment for recording. This may have some bearing on the sound quality - the sound is excellent.
I still have yet to see a review of this set in any of the mainstream pubs - Gramophone, Fanfare, etc. However, now there are two positive reviews on SACD.net, so what are all of you waiting for? :-)

hopefully for the price to reduce from the ridiculous level it is at! how can someone like naxos release double sacds for around 14 pounds yet this be priced near 40?

I have been listening to these quintets for awhile now. They are a bit expensive at Acoustic Sounds, but these small, limited distribution, & usually expensive, labels are that way.
Music, playing, and sound are first rate. So far only have listened on headphones, but soon will have big system back up again.
Worth the money if you have it.

dear nick,
i paid just 36 euros on amazon france plus 3 euros postage. Amazon's own price (amazon france, that is) was only 39 euros plus 6 euros postage, - that's about £24 for 3 discs, or £8 each, - the same as a single Naxos or Brilliant Classics super-bargain SACD. In US currency that's $43, or in the world's finest money, $58 Aussie dollars, which makes them mid-price in aussie terms. Be tempted !!!!! At that low euro price there shouldn't be any aussie customs duty to pay, either.

dear stephen (stvnharr), - see my note below to nickc, - i paid just 36 euros for the set, new, through amazon.france. That's $US43 or GB£24, - or $14 or £8 per disc, which is bargain price cheap in any currency. If you want to recommend the set to friends but its price where you are (the US I presume?) is too high, just make sure they buy from or through amazon.france.

BTW, it's steVen, as in stVnharr.

I looked at the Amazon.fr site, and of course it is all in French. The set is obviously cheaper there if one can work through it all.
The 65USD at AS may be considered a little bargain as single disc lyrinx are 30 USD. For a set of this quality, it is worth getting. Maybe just save up a little extra or something.

Ladies and gentlemen, look at it this way: this is an excellent recording in excellent sound of core repetory (trust me if you don't know the Mozart String Quintets) by one of the greatest composers who ever lived. You'll listen to it the rest of your life. What better bargain could there be?
