... I'm keen to see what's next in the series!

Me too. I'm hoping it will be 3 and 4 plus maybe the Robert Browning Overture. Since the Thomas Brodhead's performing edition based on the Critical Edition of the Critical Edition of the 4th was published well before recording sessions for this project appears to have started, this will, I think be even more special.

After the positive aspects I have raised, now the negative. I have it from Chandos that contrary to what I had originally hoped, the score used by Davis for the First Symphony is not the Critical Edition but that published by 1971 Peer. This was apparently down to an oversight by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra's librarian, and Peer, who simply sent the material that came to hand on their shelves. That said, I continue to find the performance to have more the character I expect from Ives than I do from any of the other recordings of the work, including that by the Critical Edition's editor, indispensable as that remains.

The Second, however, does indeed follow the Elkus Critical Edition.
