I have this SACD as well, and I think that overall it is a winner!!!! I have a few nits with some of Asher Fisch's tastes, as I find the opening of the opera to be a bit on the timid side (as compared to the still superb Solti/Decca Ring), as well as the brass volume in the prelude of Act 2...also a bit timid.
My other nit was Lisa Gasteen's (our Brunnhilde) entrance with the famous Hoyotoho, and her high notes were a bit thin and short. However, every other note she sang was superb.
The last act, between Brunnhilde and Wotan (John Broechler) was stunning and totally moving!!! The Siegmund and Sieglinde were also top notch in Act 1!!!
My few nits do not in any way detract from my total enjoyment of this marvelous SACD. The sound is superb and gives a fine feel for the hall, the stage, the singers moving about, etc.
I think that Melba made real history with the SACD, and I cannot wait until the rest of the operas come out!!!!!
WOO HOOO!!!
