they remove SACD as a menu option from the main window....DG no longer has a direct link to SACD.

And yet they have an SACD listed for release in September 2006 on their "What's Coming" page.

Is your comment meant to be ironic, or is it a refutation of deckem's point?

I hope it's the former because too many people here seem to be seeing the situation with rose colored glasses.

DG releases maybe 3 new (non-reissue or Bach-for-babies, etc.) items per month (down from a dozen per month ten years ago). So every nine months they release a single SACD. I would virtually guarantee that this was because Salonen or someone involved with this project demanded that it be released this way. (My guess is that the Angelinos are jealous of the reputation and the press MTT and the SF Sym gets in this part of the world for their self made Mahler SACD series. I lived in both areas and that kind of talk went on.)

It's more broad than that. Every major American orchestra that is recording is doing SACD: SFS, Philly, Atlanta, Minnesota and Cincinnati. You have to keep pace with your peers.

If by "ironic" you mean: was I pointing out the irony of DG dropping the link but also releasing an SACD? Then yes, that's what I meant.

I've heard that the SACD sales for SF Symphony have been very lack-lustre and I would hazard a guess that the format will be discontinued at some point in the near future. However the latest in the "Keeping Score" series, on DVD, will be released with some fanfare ....see the website.

I don't know where you heard that from, but I heard the opposite.

You heard wrong. They're selling 10,000 units per release, which is terrific considering the average classical release initially sells 3,000 to 4,000 units. In fact, sales have been so strong that the series has been extended to include all of the song cycles.

Seth,

RJino is a troll. His one post on the forum and he makes bogus remarks concerning SACD.
