Hi all!
I would like to get a good 2ch sa-cd player. I am afraid of used machines because of the unknown laser hours in them. This is especially true with the good old Sony machines (SCD-1 and so on). They are great but no replacement laser for them any more... not an option unfortunately... So I decided to get a brand new machine which will (hopefully) last long. Can you recommend me a good device in Europe up to 1000 EUR prince range? And besides do we know which machines convert DSD directly to analogue? Personally I don't believe that the cheaper ones do that... Multichannel gear and hooking up via HDMI is not in my interest at the moment. Thank you and regards

Would you need balanced output? I could recommend a discontinued NAD M5 for less than 1000 Eur. If primary purpose is for SACD, this player shines. If you are thinking about CD, then it may fall short of the competition. Another you could consider a safe bet like Marantz (get the older models like SA11S2 for price reasons, this player is built like a tank).

Thank you for your fast reply. Balanced (XLR) output is not a requirement, I am ok with unbalanced.

Marantz SA 8005 is the short and very reliable answer to your question, a superb machine that punches far, far above it's weight and importantly delivers the musical message. Everything stays as DSD throughout - no nasty PCM conversions along the way!

By the way I have bought many old Sony machines in the past new and old and never but never had any trouble with any of them. I would not hesitate to do so again.

Frankly in today's continuously changing environment, I would be quite hesitant to invest anything over £300 on a machine that will be obsolete in a few months. You would do well with either of these, as they both offer physical SA-CD support and the former also offers 2-channel and multi-channel DSD file (.dff/.dsf) support via USB: http://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/blu-ray-disc-players/bdp-s7200

The latter machine will also be a great value whilst you modernise the rest of your system.
