No news from SACD hardware world in these last days of 2008?

This is not a time for hardware news. Most important A/V fairs are in autumn. The next major one is CES, usually in the first week of January.

Yes, on the heels of Oppo's announcement of its $500 - $600 Blu-ray/SACD player, here's a $400.00 player from ezGear.

Hello from a newbie on this forum,

My CD/SACD player is the Audionet VIP G2 with additional power supply EPS.
My audio system is stereo only, I bought my player 2 years ago, but I didn't look for a multiformat player, I choose it as the best CD player I've heard.

The first week of January is over. No good news from SACD hardware section?

Admittedly not much, and very expensive (far out of my range), this from the 2009 CES shows that the patient is still alive:

EMM Labs TSD1 & DAC2:
EMM Labs showed its first transport and DAC. The TSD1 ($11,000) transport and DAC2 converter ($9,500) which have a proprietary optical link to send a DSD signal and the DAC up converts to 5.6Mhz while also de-jittering the signal. Inputs include USB for PC hook-up.

Playback Designs MPS-5:
Playback Designs showed a pair of SACD-oriented components in the MPS-5 player ($15,000) and MPD-5 DAC ($11,000). By combining DAC and the player you can achieve multichannel SACD of an ambitious standard. The MPD-5 has a discrete D/A convertor and the two units are linked optically.

Let's hope for news of more SACD product introductions as news trickles out from Las Vegas. Not surprisingly it's been reported that the event was poorly attended this year.

Somebody earlier asked how many SA-CD players there were but I couldn't find the original query:

"News from Sony indicates that there is global installed base of more than 13 million Super Audio CD players, with in excess of 180 models currently available from 37 manufacturers covering every application from entry-level stereo players to high-end multi-channel audiophile systems. The number of manufacturers seeking licenses and the number of models available continues an upward year-on-year trend." - Super Audio CD News

Support for SA-CD is still on track for the PS3 later this year which should boost numbers considerably.

Hi Zeus,

It's 2 1/2 years later, any ideas what global installed base of SACD players is now?

Thanks in advance,
Teresa
