Great to see they're coming with an all new SACD player! From the front (see links below) it looks a lot like earlier models but judging by the back panel it's quite a radical departure: no analog multichannel output anymore, and balanced stereo outputs. Quite a barren back panel.
After they released the ~5300 AV receiver with DSD input via HDMI last year and the ~4400 and ~5400 this month they're finally introducing an SACD player with DSD output via HDMI (instead of i.Link).
Here's the official announcement:

Now if only they will add BD support in the next version of this :-D

Hi,
I guess all these weird stereo only players are for the Japanese market?
The stereo only players, naturally, cost at least 2x the multichannel players because product marketing has placed them to the true high end price class.
Further, there is a constant flow of stereo only Japanese titles from Japanese labels.
Obviously, multichannel has not at all been accepted in Japan. Do we have any Japanese SACD enthusiasts in this discussion forum?
best regards,
Esa

Japan has a space issue. Therefor the low interest in space intensive multichannel systems, I guess. Even though a stereo system should have some room as well and my surround system probably uses only around 12 square meters. But even this is a lot in Tokyo I guess. And if I had not the rear speakers a wall directly behind my chair would not matter and reduce the space to around ten. Just my two cents :-)
