I can live without this forum, but I don't think that decision will be good for the site.

There will be much less daily visits to check for updates (if you like to have site traffic). Currently there are new forum posts almost every hour, but new discs are added only once a week or so and there are no more than 3 new reviews per week.

Will new posts on disc discussions be listed chronologically on a single page, so one can easily see if there is something new? What if people start off-topic discussions in these threads (for example about new releases from the same label)?

Sad to hear about the termination this forum.

+1000

In meatspace I know no one, literally no one who knows about or cares about SACD.

As previously noted, this forum isn't being carried forward. It will however be retained, at least until the database upgrade, but won't be accessible from the new menu. If you have an interest in still using it I suggest you bookmark the following:

...

Did anyone actually read and comprehend the post. All Zeus is saying is this forum won't be as accessible as it is now. It will still be there if you simply bookmark it.

What's so difficult of that?

It will only be retained on a temporary basis. Zeus has said at some point, it will disappear; like a dude wearing pair of cement boots, never to be seen again.

As I read Stephen's update he's saying that there will still be a discussion section which will allow forum-like exchanges of views and information but we will lose the ability to revive an old thread with a new post five years after the last one like someone recently did re: the Eschenbach Saint Saens 3rd, or, and to my mind this is a loss, to access the content of long running threads like the BIS thread. In short, while I would prefer to keep things as they are, it doesn't seem to me that this is the calamity some are claiming and certainly doesn't justify the vituperative tone of some of the responses.

Seems there will be a discussion section for recordings, which is the purpose of this site. Is that too limiting?

I also hate the idea that the Forum is being discontinued. I think it is probably the most informative portion of the website. Is the "Discussion" section essentially a reboot of the old forum under a new moniker?

The issue here is the database conversion. Because they share the same database I can't risk corruption of the data. There may be a way around this if people are prepared to put up with some garbage characters. I don't see the old forum being used much though as the useful (IMNSHO) bits are being carried over as Discussion.

The problem is that if the discussion forum will be henceforth hidden and that the discussion section will be tied directly to the individual SACD or Blu-ray disc themselves, the opportunities to having a free flowing conversation on topics that are on tangents will be constrained and that will be a detriment to this site.

An example: somebody wants to (god forbid) discuss the DVD-A version or download or some other tangential topics or discuss BPO DSD or Channel Classics DSD downloads etc, etc,...

The forum as is is pretty good.

Well here's to wishing that the gods of Olympus can save the forum.
