A sticker on the digipak clearly states the recording within to be a 5.1 mix. This is misleading, since the mix is, in fact, 4.0. There is no center channel and no activity in the subwoofer. It was said this was made from the original quadraphonic tapes, and that's exactly what you get. Don't get me wrong; any Moody Blues in surround is great. But the folks at Universal should have been more truthful about the mix of this recording. I don't know about the other SACD's in this series, but since I have them on order as well, I guess I'll find out.

I wonder if the marketing people who make the text on stickers or back covers aren't simply lacking the basic technical knowledge and think multichannel is automatically 5.1 .
Even worse than presenting quadro (4.0) transfers as 5.1 discs are the Living Stereo SACDs, which have the standard hybrid multichannel SACD icons on the back cover : CD audio - SACD stereo - SACD *surround* . It's quite a stretch to present a 3-track recording (left-center-right) as "surround".

But they clearly state on the cover that they are 3-channel recordings. It's still multichannel if the center channel is active. Three channels instead of two. I have several of these, and think they're awesome. Historic recordings as they're meant to be heard.

Are you sure about this? I don't recall that any of the Living Stereo discs are marked "surround." The discs with three-channel content do say "multi-channel," but I don't think they say "surround."

This is the only Moody Blues SACD to command a premium price. I'm surprised it would have gone OOP sooner than the others.
