So where might one hear the 4.0 Mix?

The Quad/4.0 mix is featured in this release from Audio Fidelity, coming to Hybrid Surround SACD in June.

If it's up to the standard of previous AF Quad SACDs we're in for a treat.

I have the perception box set which I thoroughly enjoy especially in 5.1. I did not purchase the AP box set release as I could purchase the SACDs individually and the total cost was £100 cheaper than purchasing them in an outer cardboard box... come on £100 for a cardboard box.

I also have the entire studio albums 24/96 downloaded from Qobuz.

Seriously. Do we need another Doors release?

There are plenty of other artist I can think of who I would like to see on SACD.. ELO, Vangelis, Stranglers, ENO to name a few

This disc is a GREAT alternative for those who don't have either DVD~A/SACD mch box sets but a serious ommission, IMHO, is The End.

To me it's not an alternative but a must have! I've got the Perception DVD-A box set already and still can't wait for this new SACD, it's a fantastic Quad mix coupled with Steve Hoffman Stereo mastering. Superb! AF I love you!

I'm still disappointed, Adam, that the upcoming Joe Cocker "With A Little Help From My Friends" SACD is NOT in 4.0.

Have you EVER heard a QUAD mix of that album or know of anyone who has?

Oh well, at least we have LaBelle's Nightbirds, Billy Joels Streetlife Serenade and of course Earth, Wind & Fire's Open Our Eyes to look forward to in 4.0!

Freakin' AWESOME!

funny thing is there wasn't a stereo version in the first place so to be authentic the stereo would need to be a down mix of the quad

... and remember how lousy the SH mastered Light My Fire sounds on the Legends SACD? A total ear bleeder. I'm not buying this for the stereo mix anyway so no big deal I guess. I can play the quad in stereo by down mixing with my Marantz player

I have all six (6)of the previous multi-channel Doors SACDs but as you know, THE DOORS and STRANGE DAYS have minimal surround effect, especially THE DOORS which was basically 3 channel sound. STRANGE DAYS was slightly better but not by much. The other four (4)SACD titles showed more surround sound effect on some songs.

I've never heard the QUAD Best of The Doors release but I suspect that the surround sound effect will be different for all tracks and can expect more noticeable surround sound effect on those tracks that appeared on the THE DOORS and STRANGE DAYS previous SACDs.

If you have heard the original QUAD LP release, can anybody comment on what we can expect, surround sound-wise ???

The live track is the most enjoyable one, as far as surround sound.

The Joe Cocker's stereo only afaik.. the Doors Quad is an excellent mix, prefer it to the later 5.1 stuff.

Sorry Adam, beginner question:
What does "afaik" mean?

The Doors debut album was recorded on a four track recorder with the fourth track utilized mainly for overdubs.

Personally, I prefer to play their debut album/Strange Days in Stereo (96/24) as it sounds MUCH fuller (this from the Perception Box DVD~A).

Before committing to a purchase, I would like to read other poster's comments regarding the SQ of the upcoming QUAD 4.0 of The Best of The Doors......thus avoiding redundancy.
