Received this recently. Haven't got a chance yet to listen, but I don't hope the sound is anything like the low-res of the booklet. Jesus, did they use a photocopier? Grainy, blurry pictures that don't befit a SACD at all.

I'm planning a comparative review of this with Bruckner: Symphony No. 4 - Böhm, Bruckner: Symphony No. 4 - Haitink, Bruckner: Symphony No. 4 "Romantic" - Järvi, Bruckner: Symphony No. 4 "Romantic" - Janowski, and Bruckner: Symphony No. 4 - Wand.

Maybe you got an advanced promo-copy for review? I have all RR Fresh sacds and printing is always very fine.

No, I bought it from Amazon UK. The printing for the RR Strauss I have is much better. I guess they had it made on the cheap, so as to save money for the recording :)

Great idea and I look forward to your "group review"! May I suggest you add one more MCH SACD recording to your review, the Blomstedt Leipzig Gewandhaus disc from Querstand? In my own experience, it and the Järvi are the gold standard in MCH....so far. Eager to hear Honeck!

Does Blomstedt use the Haas/Nowak edition? Unfortunately, I don't have it. At any rate, I leave out the Urfassung and the 1889 (so no Young, Bosch, Nagano, and Vänska).

Ok, I see now that Blomstedt does indeed use the Nowak. I'll look for an inexpensive copy, and will add it to the review. I look forward to hearing it.

Pirated copy?

Does it have both CD and SACD layers?

And do they give you a digital code to "walk the plank?"

it's a regular issue, i.e. proper SACD, it's just that the printing looks a bit cheap, compared to what I normally see. But of course the sound is what matters, and on first listen, that's more than fine. The performance/interpretation seems a bit lighter than what I'm used to, somehow airier. But that's just a first impression. Detailing and soundstage are great, but that's what you'd expect from what is, as stated in the booklet, a "recording ... made and post produced in 64fs DSD on a Pyramix workstation to give you, the listener, the highest sound quality possible," done by Sound Mirror.

The microphone array used is with "five omnidirectional DPA 4006 microphones," supplemented with "spot mics to clarify the detail of the orchestration."

Looks just fine to me.
