I wonder how long this symphony is? After hearing Arabella Steinbacher tell me how much she enjoys the Schnittke violin concerto #4 - I am surprised she did not record this for PentaTone to be paired with this release - if there was room. I really really would love to have a PentaTone recording of her playing that piece

I'll second that. I'd love to hear Steinbacher in the Fourth Violin Concerto, a masterpiece that will endure the test of time.

It's about 50 minutes, and that concerto is about 35, so that wouldn't quite fit unless they just raced through both pieces!

Why they should????

With Stereo only you can put over 3 hrs on a single disc :-)

Why stop there?! Make it mono and double the time available again!!

True, but all Pentatone releases are m-ch.

of course. it was a bit silly joke from me. But with mark elder rendition of The Planets they have managed to put 155 mins on a single sacd.

I think BIS holds the record putting 255 minutes of stereo SACD on a single disc.

Mendelssohn: Complete String Symphonies - Markiz

Mendelssohn: Complete Concertos - Markiz

All the above is a bit irrelevant.... to me at least. I would not bother with any recording that is not multi-channel.

I am rather looking for the performance than number of channels. Of course minimum is 2-channel stereo. Never tried dual mono or mono recordings since I quit vinyls.

Falla stereo only SA-CD is much better (performance-wise) than any other release so far, IMHO. And music is what matters the most to me.
