Hi to everyone. Can anyone tell me if the Promo UK release of Kraftwerk's "Minimum Maximum was a SACD? I have just bought this title off a buyer on eBay and what caught my eye was the picture of the back cover saying this disc will play on SACD & CD players. If it was just a CD surely this info wouldn't be there. Can anyone help, incidentally I paid £10 for this disc.

I don't think it is beyond the realms of possibility that promo SACD copies were printed but the SACDs go for big bucks - £200 +... If you have obtained a Promo SACD copy for £10 then 'WooHoo!' well done.

The message is kind of stupid, because CDs also play on SACD and CD players, but judging from the covers available on discogs, only the SACDs had this info.

It might be a limited edition import from The Barras (once reputed to be the dodgiest market in Europe!) or Thailand where you can fake everything!

Just had a look at the sleeve on ebay (under Sold Listings). The sleeve just states that the disc is 'Compatible With CD/DVD-V/DVD-A/SACD Players etc...' as all these players will play CDs.

Sadly I don't think you've bagged a SACD copy, just a promo.

The message may be stupid to most of us but to certain music neanderthals this information needs to be there. I have seen reviews on Amazon by people who bought DVDAs and SACDs (that explicitly state you need an appropriate player on the labels on the disc covers) giving them 1 star and the reason that the discs were faulty, they could not play it, they returned it, there was no video etc ... RTFM

I also have a relative who went out and purchased EJs Goodbye Yellowbrick Road on SACD after I played it to them in glorious surround. During our listening session (playing a variety of other SACDs) I had explained my equipment setup etc. I still got a call complaining that the surround was not working... "BUT you don't have a surround system nor an SACD player" I explained, totally stunned by the stupidity.

Sadly, I am also very doubtful that wiggy scored a genuine SACD of Minimum Maximum but hopefully he can return his purchase as it's supposedly backed by Paypal.

I have a lot of friends/acquaintances who don't have a blu ray player (and you can buy one for about $80 at a local Costco or Walmart) because they state: but it won't play my older DVDs.

And my stock answer is always, not only will they play your DVDs and CDs but in the case of DVDs they'll even look better.

Blank stares all around!

I bought the same CD again off eBay, for £3.20 and that turned out to be a SACD with (I am sure) the same info as the one I have just purchased, and I sold that on eBay for £57.00. I sold the last one because my Panasonic wouldn't play SACD's. I will let people know if this turns out to be a SACD

Has anyone here bought the DVD instead of the SACD because of the exorbitant prices of the SACD? If yes, what's it like and does it compare favourably to the SACD?

Well the disc arrived today and sadly it's not a SACD. I will keep on looking.

I ordered the DVD last night and although I don't have the SACD to compare, the m/c mix on the DVD is excellent apparently, so it'll hopefully might give me a glimpse of Kraftwerk in m/c, although perhaps not as good as the SACD. I'll post an update when it arrives :)
