The Sanderling recording of Shostakovich 15 is indeed superb. I have the original RBCD release on Berlin Classics, but have not heard the SACD (stereo) from Japan. If one is looking for an excellent MCH version of this symphony, I highly recommend either the new Wigglesworth on BIS or the Kitaenko on Capriccio, both of which are top-notch interpretations captured in stunning MCH sound.

Bruckner, Mahler and now Shostakovich, all three are well represented on hI-rez formats, some even think that there are too many on SACD.
I have the Gergiev 15 on Mariinsky coupled with Sym. 1, do not know how it compares to others mentioned here but the recording is spectacular and worth an audition, if you, like me, must have multiple versions of your favorite compositions give this one a try.

I have this SACD and the Berlin Classics CDs of the Sanderling recordings.
Although the CDs were mastered with NoNoise software, the sound is very natural, and the SACD is just a bit better, with more warmth and clarity. I had expected a bigger difference.
I'm surprised the SACD is still available, 10 years after the release. At the CDJapan price, it's a great bargain.

And really, as has been already noted, it (the Sanderling) is a superb performance, one whose distinct qualities you note right away.
I also have his Sibelius SACDs from the same source and they have been a special favorite for years and years. Surprisingly fine sonics, too; big, wide, and warm with little loss of details and plenty of impact.
