This player has been outclassed for CD playback so it's a bit of an extravagance keeping it for just the 120 stereo-only SA-CDs I own.

Wow Zeus - as our founder, I admire your discipline and good sense - only 120 SA-CDs! Were I only so disciplined myself! I also admire your limiting yourself to stereo-only (like me) :) If I may ask, what are your primary interests at this point - SACDs, downloads, etc.?

I suspect that "stereo-only" may be the operative phrase.

My Library here shows that I have about 900 SA-CDs, of which 120 are earlier stereo-only discs (no multichannel). A few I deacquisitioned, some more I should find a more appreciative home for.

As for my collecting today, I'm fairly format agnostic. As well as SA-CDs and BD-As I buy CDs, downloads etc. My system has been set up to make the best of each. Thanks to technology advances there's more options now for good sound. A recent highlight for me is The Complete Works for Piano Solo of C.P.E. Bach by Ana-Marija Markovina (26 CDs). I don't listen to this and say "I wish it was SA-CD" ... it sounds just fine to me.

Very interesting to read other peoples "developments" in the world of recorded music listening. As soon as I discovered DVD-A and SACD (sort of 8 to 9 years ago), I found that I became quite (almost) "ultra orthodox" with regard to what I would buy. I have recently softened, and have actually bought 6 CDs in 2014, whereas the number before this year back until 2007 numbered at most just 3. So that accounts for less than 10 CDs bought in the last decade. In addition to that, although I have a definite preference for a multi-channel audio option to be present on SACDs (and DVD-As), the number of my two channel-only hi-res albums has grown significantly over the last couple of years. I suppose I just don't want to "miss out", but more importantly that any of what I've just mentioned (perhaps), is that I also appreciate that I have some very decent music - and most importantly - music that I can enjoy that is plan-and-simple 2-channel "standard PCM" - i.e CD.

I guess this is a hobby for a lot of us here, and that means by default that some of us take things to extremes - isn't that perhaps the nature of hobbies? A hobby is a luxury, something that we don't really "need", but which gives us a great deal of pleasure and we become extravagant - and have a lot of fun in the meantime (and possibly spend inordinate sums of money). Someone else on this forum - a very regular poster - once mentioned that they deliberately don't mention the hi-fi system that they use, as some are prone to judge accordingly - read also prejudiced - whereby the enjoyment of the music/recording/performance is determined in advance by what equipment is being used.

Anyway - enjoy your music! Best wishes.

Yes, I have found out what you say as to being a dilemma for me.

Funny, my love for mch and SACD has hampered me a bit but on the other hand my very favorite CD I bought this year was the new RBCD, Simple Minds, Big Music. Recorded very well.

As a rock music listener, I just don't want to wait for re releases that may or may not come. There is the possibility that some of the re releases even in SACD are no better, significantly, money wise, than the RBCD of past.

I am absolutely convinced that once in awhile SACD means placebo in better listening and I am also convinced that RBCD, placebo, does not mean BAD.

Using DR Loudness as a tool has helped me a lot. Also waiting to purchase after reading reviews on this site is helpful, but very hard as the new mch or SACD re release is always going to be better, right?

My overall listening and how I listen has greatly improved and I now have confidence in myself as to my own review of a given disc.

I envy the classical listeners as I think they have it a lot easier than the rock listener, but not all the time.

I am not so sure about any of this. It is a fun hobby that is for sure.

Happy New Year (in advance), Stephen.

Am glad to hear that in addition to your SACD acquisitions you are also enjoying "Plain Vanilla" RBCDs, as well, since, as pertains to Classical, they are NOT compressed and provided they're mastered from 'reliable' sources, can and DO offer hours of enjoyment.

As quite a few posters on this forum have switched to downloads, I still find pleasure in acquiring physical discs and do hope they'll be with us for the foreseeable future.

And thanks to SA~CD.net, I do think that SACD will be with us for a few more GOOD years!

Regards,

Ralph

And as the $$$$$ pours in Mark, so will the system upgrades......

And unlike that "box of chocolates," at least when those little "boxes" come in the mail, you KNOW what you're gonna get.

Happy 2015 to you and your family, Mark.

I am a fan of SACD. I love it.
I am using a Denon AVR 1700 It has the proper analogue inputs (RCA)for true SACD separation and sound. I am playing my SACD CD's on a Denon DVD 1940CI That has the proper SACD separate RCA analogue outputs. My two fronts are B&W's my two rear are B&W's a sexy sub, and a nice center. All combined, the real deal with SACD sound. I just don't think you get the same listening experience when you go HDMI or Digital out.
So, the question "What's your system" is an epic question. My system is inexpensive, but, will make you cry when you sit down and listen.
Some of you complain about the SACD Pink Floyd 'Wish You Were Here" saying the sound is muffled, or "bad" I am thinking you don't have your system correctly hooked up, and you aren't enjoying the true bliss of audio heroin.
Yes, my system is correctly hooked up for premium, absolutely stunning audio.
Did I mention, it's inexpensive. ?

Glad you're thoroughly enjoying your system, Keith.

Was just curious what bad reviews of Wish You Were Here are you're referring to as ALL the reviews on this site are 4~5 stars for SQ and even checked AmazonUS where over a thousand reviews were in the same range (but one never knows what format (vinyl, RBCD, SACD?) some of those listeners are reviewing).
