Hi everyone,

I am now getting into SACD and DSD. I understand to hear the advantage the equipment needs to be of high enough quality.
Any feedback regarding the equipment and if I’ll be hearing the SACD advantage will be appreciated!

System 1:
- [New SACD Player] -> NAD T747 Receiver - > JBL L5 speakers
- Looking for a blu-ray/SACD player, so likely Oppo 103.
(Am I better off with the NAD747 DAC or Analog out?)
- Looking to upgrade the speaker wires

System 2: (computer desk, space a consideration)
- Flac/DSD -> USB -> [New DAC / AMP] - > Dali Mentor Minuet (just got them)
- Looking at:
-> Teac AI-301 DAC+AMP ($500)
-> Wadia 151 DAC+AMP ($500)
-> Cambridge Audio DacMagicPlus ($500) + Emotiva mini-X a-100 ($200) = $700
-> NAD D 7050 DAC+AMP ($1,000)
-> Cambridge Audio DacMagicPlus ($500) + Musical Fidelity M1PWR ($500) = $1,000
-> Cambridge Audio DacMagicPlus ($500) + NAIM Nap 100 ($1,000 yick) = $1,500
(I will try and find places to listen to these, but no one carries my speakers here, may take them with me)

System 3: (for my dad)
- [New SACD Player] -> Sennheiser HD 650
- [New SACD Player] -> Onkyo Receiver (forget model) - > JBL L5 speakers
- Looking to add a used SACD player or Marantz 8004/8005 or Onkyo C-S5VL
- Will likely upgrade the Onkyo Receiver to an amp.

Thanks everyone.

I have been reading this forum for a while now, great information!

Go for the OPPO BDP105D. The DACs are audiophile level and it also supports both DSD64 and DSD128 stereo and multichannel via USB.

Sorry can't comment on the rest of your options.

Good luck.

Does the 105D have the audiophile DAC for all channels? I'm talking about m/c because I could be tempted to replace my 103 if it does. I used to own a non-darbee 105 and iirc, only the front channels had the audiophile DAC. If this has changed, then a new 105 could be the gadget I can use to implement m/c audio via USB or with my HTPC as source.

I have two different systems, so cannot use the Oppo for my computer desk setup.

What order would these be ranked in?
- Oppo 103 DAC -> Analog -> NAD T747 AMP
- Oppo 105 DAC -> Analog -> NAD T747 AMP
- Oppo 103 -> HDMI -> NAD T747 DAC + AMP

I would have a look at the new Sony BDP-S7200:
http://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/blu-ray-disc-players/bdp-s7200

It's the next generation up of players, from what others have posted here and will do multi-channel DSD and FLAC via USB.

Significantly less expensive, as well.

EDIT: Here's the support page for user manual downloads:
http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/BDP-S7200#Manuals

... as I never trust the specification listings on web pages. Complete specifications are on pages 38-41.

Nice 4k player. However investing in 4k technology right now is not my priority, I think it will change a lot and rapidly over the next few years. 4K blu rays will come out in 2015, format has not been finalized as far as I know. 4K screen technology will also keep updating. Also, not too many details as to the SACD quality of this player yet.

ANYWAYS back on track!

Equipment for SACD/DSD listing! Any more feedback on the above systems?

A bit of history of this design.

The BDP-S6200 and BDP-S7200 are the 2014 successor to the BDP-S790 which was introduced in 2012. My BDP-S790 has been resident in my system since November 2012.

S790 also features 4K video up-scaling technology as does my Denon AVR-3313, both of which were purchased concurrently. This is nothing new; it's just another marketing feature, as my highest priority is SA-CD playback. S790 DSD transport is well built and a quite reliable bit of kit.

The BDP-S6200 was introduced in March 2014 followed by the BDP-S7200 a few months later. Both feature the same design which is a refinement of the original BDP-S790 design, with the following differences:
1) North America: BDP-S7200 features improved build quality over the BDP-S6200, but no difference in functionality.

2) EU: BDP-S7200 features improved build quality over the BDP-S6200, but BDP-S6200 will not playback DSD/FLAC files via USB. Recommend perusing the complete specification list in appropriate user manual of each player, to determine functional differences.

So you changed your 105 for a 103? Why?

The BDP-105 and the BDP-105D (Darbee) use two ES9018 DAC chips - one for the 7.1-channel output, and another for the dedicated stereo output. The SABRE32 Reference ES9018 from ESS Technology is the world’s best performing 32-bit audio DAC solution targeted for high-end consumer applications and professional studio equipment.

I was going for a stereo only setup at the time and preferred stereo SACD playback via my Monoprice HDMI-Audio De-Embedder, which I used to extract hi-res SACD audio and output it 24/88.2 to my Lavry DA11 DAC.the audio flow was:

OPPO(PCM)>HDMI>Monoprice(24/88.2)>Optical>Lavry>Amp Speakers

Even though this was a basterdised method, I preferred it to the OPPO's on board DAC. It's strange I know, but that's how it was.

Honestly, this thread is a stark reminder of why SACD failed as a mainstream format.

I thought that SACD sounded substantially better than RBCD on a $100 Sony SACD player and $400 Onkyo AVR going to entry-level Polk Audio Speakers. In fairness the Sony CE-595 was a gem for the price, but still - you can see the benefits of SACD with under $1k in gear.
