It was a litle bit surprise to me that not only X5 but also my existing X3 is capable to do DSD64fs and DSD 128fs as well. Just an upgrade of the firmware is needed! Great news indeed. X3 and X5 has now offers the same capabilities only X5 offers greater design bigger internal memory chip and also 2 SD micro slots insead of one. My friend has been surprised by the performance of my upgraded X3 over past weekend. He listened to some of my digital rips from DSD recorded music and was so stunned that he agreed to invest some money into DSD setup similar to mine!

Thanks for notifying me, Dixie. I have not heard about Sony Hi-Res Portables yet. Good to hear they did not dropped portables at all. Any updates on PONO player?

I've owned the F886 for more than 12 months now. I find you do need a portable amp to get the best out of them. DSD sounds amazing !
The expensive flagship model NWZ-ZX1 is still available. I think the very latest Sony Hi Res players do not support DSD, which is strange, if so ?
Isn't Pono based on donations / kickstarter ?? I've seen people post on the internet recently with photo's of their players, and read positive feedback...

Thanks for sharing this information. I have an X3, and I immediately went to their site to download the firmware upgrade. I works great. You even get a whole new look-and-feel as well as the DSD capability! To test it out, I bought the new Fischer Brahms 2nd from Channel in DSD format. Very nice sound.

Yes and there is aplenty of more new features - e.g. quicker startup and poweroff, you can also replay all the songs from the artist chosen. Furthemore you can toggle options for resume the playback from the last point before you switched off or from the start of the last track you have been playing back the last session or no resume at all. However the case sensitiveness remains so you must be very careful with titling the tracks during origination of the preferred codec. Some manually created DSF files might end up with click or pop at the end or at the start of the track which is audible even during gapless playback. With DFF files I havent witnessed anything boring or unwanted effects. So far so good then there is no need for HW upgrade from X3 to X5. Goood work indeed.
