great site review. I had noted the disc's pre-release announcement but then totally forgot about it. Will definitely buy.
One note though -- not to be pedantic: Varèse was not a *later* interest of Zappa's but informed his musical explorations even before he started out with the Mothers of Invention in the mid-60s. I believe the young idolatrous Zappa even got the opportunity to make a phone call to Varèse (but this may be anecdotal).
Also, Zappa was never related to any jazz scene (nor could his music lazily be classified as such), although free jazz (Albert Ayler in particular) had some influence on his early solo music (Uncle Meat indeed).

You are right, of course. Trying to avoid the text getting too long, I resorted to selective introduction to keep things simple, so thanks for adding the info about Zappa's development here.
