For some reason, I've deliberately avoided Diana Krall thus far because I've read lots of reviews saying her music is too laid black with each song morphing into the next with very little variation in mood, tempo etc. I've got some Norah Jones and although I like what she does, I only play her albums when I'm in the mood and don't want to have another Norah Jonesy sounding singer if I'm not inclined to listen to her music.

When I looked at the tracks on Wallflower however, that looks like the kind of album I could like, so I'll check it out on youtube and let my ears, rather than my eyes, do the listening.

Is there an stand-out album by Diana Krall?

I recently saw Diana LIVE at our local Capitol theater and while I wasn't wowed, she certainly held her own. Of course growing up on the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Sarah Vaughan and Nancy Wilson (the jazz singer not the other half of the rock group Heart), I cannot truthfully say that Krall is in their league, but I can heartily recommend Diana Krall: Love Scenes and Diana Krall: The Look of Love as a fair representation of her artistry. Some very fine jazz interludes grace her albums and her sexy, sultry voice will grow on you, Derek.

Both recommended albums are multichannel but don't except anything too discrete. Both are very well recorded and 'tastefully' discrete.

okay thanks Ralph, I've ordered Love Scenes to test the water and it seems like it's the sort of music best enjoyed late at night, when lights are dim, slippers and housecoat are on and sleep, an old acquaintance, about to come calling...

Good choice, Derek. Pay particular attention to cut #2 "Peel Me A Grape ....." you'll love when the champagne cork pops in the front and goes to the rear channel. Nice touch.

Watched Criterion's magnificent 4K transfer of E.M. Forster's "A Room With A View" tonight. It was like watching it for the first time. Picture and Surround 2.0 soundtrack are nothing short of superb. The best 117 minutes I spent with a film in awhile.

Dr. Mark Waldrep's wonderful AIX label has released some incredible sounding DVD~A MLP 5.1 Discs over the years and three VERY high recommendations are: The Brand New Opry Vol. 1, Nitty Gritty Surround with Jennifer Warnes and The Surf City Allstar Band with Jan Torrence (of Jan and Dean) and guitarist Jeff "Skunk" Baxter who has played with Steely Dan. All are two~sided DVDs with one side in MLP 5.1 DVD~A 96/24 and the other videos of the entire performances in DTS/DD5.1 with choice of audience or stage perspective.

All are VERY discrete affairs with that live to two track immediacy....only it's recorded in 5.1!

All are available at AmazonUS....type in AIX records....some GREAT prices, too!

Some GREAT music! Period.

OK, the suspense is killing me. Still NO info on whether the upcoming Audio Fidelity SACD of Loggins & Messina's Sittin' In will be QUAD or stereo.

I recently purchased the SHM~CD of Sittin' In From CDJapan and if it's only stereo, think I'll pass.

Really also wish Audio Fidelity would update their website. They list the upcoming Close Encounters and "Cruisin'" SACDs but still list Michael Hedges (exceptional) upcoming SACD as LP only and they have NO listing for Sittin' In.

VERY frustrating!

Where is "Multichannel Maven" bmoura when we need him?

UPDATE: I just emailed AF's CEO Marshall Blonstein regarding the omissions and confusion generated by AF's website. Hope to receive a response, soon. But I did praise Mr. Blonstein for the cornucopia of SACD riches he has bestowed upon us QUAD~STARVED collectors and the rapidity in which AF releases them (in deference to AP and MoFi's overtly, ever so slow pokey SACD release schedules).

Graham, the album you are referring to is the first AF Loggins & Messina QUAD 4.0 album which has already been released....NOT L&M's "Sittin' In" which is poised for a December 11th release.

I bought Jean Michel Jarre's Aero CD/DVD (as recommended by Ralph a few pages back) and listened to the 5.1 mix last night and it's a tour de force in surround sound with music flowing and jumping between speakers.

At times it seemed slightly unmusical because JMJ seems to have focussed on filling all channels with the sounds of everyday life as well as music just to explore what can be done with 5.1 speakers, but it's still good and I'll certainly play it from time to time :)
