Well my copy arrived today. On first listen? Well apart from some backing harmony on a few tracks, and if you don't count Stephen Hawkings electronic voice on 'Talkin' Hawkin', there is only one track with actual lyrics - 'Louder Than Words' - but a true Pink Floyd classic style song. Overall the surround is very good but I think I need to listen a few more times before passing judgment though.

Having listened through the 24/96 today - it is a long record - all I can say is in a way it exceeded my modest expectations for what are essentially a bunch of snippets and fragments. Clearly a lot of work has been done - primarily by Youth, Manzaera and Gilmour, to create something out of this, and clearly Gilmour and Mason did a fair bit of overdubbing and new recording to turn it into a Pink Floyd record - which, surprisingly, it actually is.
It is fairly ambient, think of it as a soundtrack to an invisible motion picture. If you are looking for songs, that is not here.

BTW, do you have the superb David Gilmour album Live at Gdansk (2 DVD/2 RBCD) set with the 5.1 remix (DTS 5.1) of On An Island? A VERY guilty pleasure which grows on you with repeated listens. Hopefully, they'll re~release the package on BD~V/A one day with lossless encoding.

Live At Gdansk - superb - but only have it on the vinyl box set that came out at the time. Never found a hi-res digital version.

The 5.1 DVD is available from AmazonUK but as I mentioned only in a lossy DTS Mix (which really does sound superb...and VERY discreet)!

Ralph, I'll look for this disc but really just wanted to jump in and say thanks for the advice on the Steve Wilson, Blu Ray Disc, Get All You Deserve, WOW, awesome.

You're very welcomed. Another hearty recommendation: A BD~V entitled Big Easy Express.....featuring Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine Show.
Shaking your head, Mark: I NEVER heard of the latter two acts myself but after catching this on cable the other night and immediately ordering from AmazonUS (and cheap, as well), it comes with my highest recommendation....toe tapping, highly infectious music!
Also spun the RBCD of The Endless River today. Very encouraging and will definitely play the BD~A 5.1 this evening....and right up your alley, Mark: Very classy packaging!

I listened to The Endless River today BD~A 5.1 earlier today. Stunning and well balanced. Not sure if I would give it the full on Pink Floyd stamp, maybe because all instrumental, except for last track, oh well too soon for review.
And yes the packaging is a +10.

Very doubtful, Mark, if The Endless River was released today by an unknown group it would make a dent on the sales chart. If you decide to buy the Live In Gdansk Gilmour album ( With "On An Island" in 5.1) you'll be pleasantly surprised how that somewhat does resemble a vintage PF album....very melodic, as well.
But being that Endless River is PF's "swan" song (sans Roger Waters), good to have it in my collection

I have now listened to it a couple of times, and certainly it is quintessentially Floyd, more so than the quite execrable Division Bell, although probably still a bit too slick compared to the PF of the days of yore; and in fact I prefer the instrumentality of the album, I'm not so keen on Gilmour's singing.
Recently, I find myself returning again and again to the early stuff (post-Pipers and pre-DSOTM), Atom Heart Mother and Meddle in particular. That's the Pink Floyd I like most.
I should note that Stephen Hawking's vocoder-voice in track 14 is utterly ridiculous.
