Thread: Consumer Warning - Beware of SPLASH

Early in the new year I became aware of a new web CD sales site based in the UK called SPLASH-DVD. They offered very good discounted prices on hundreds of SACDs. I ordered and paid for two SACDs a month ago and another two a week after that. Despite several emails I have received neither goods nor refund nor any replies to my emails. That evidence suggests that the site could be a scam and it is a possibility that listed goods do not exist. The alternative is that they are blitheringly incompetent. Neither possible conclusion gives buyers a feeling of security. I am about to launch a formal complaint thru' Consumer Affairs but wanted to warn any SACD-info site users against using the SPLASH site or purchasing from SPLASH-Dvd until it has been proven by Consumer Affairs that they and their inventory exist.

A further update. No news from Splash or Fair trading but I've had two contacts from site users reporting the same problem. One has an outstanding order of four months and the other of two months. So I can only repeat: BEWARE!!!!

One of the other site users who is affected by Splash has just informed me that he's been given a refund for his outstanding items as SPLASH are experiencing legal problems sending audio discs from Jersey to the UK mainland. Will update.

Hi,... thats me :-)... meanwhile I go refund for 3 out of 6 missing discs, but its pretty much cumbersome to follow up with them. They were using an email system internally within the order-application but sometimes they do not sent you copies of your regualar SMTP account..

Anyway: I heard from play.com and some other UK vendors that they have some legal problems in selling Audio discs to UK mainland. (although I'm from Germany.. but maybe because of that they do not get deliveries from their suppliers). The site www.playusa.com explicitaly notes that they won't deliver CDs/SACD's to UK customers.

All in all, up to mid last year I've been quite happy with them when ordering DVD's but this experience is probably the last I'll have with Splash...

Cheers, Tjobbe

Splash -effective today- ended its operation due to "financial problems" so I wonder if I ever see the money for my refunds I requested...

lesson learned...

Cheers, Tjobbe

EDIT: I got at least 40GBP refunded but as the site is off-line now I have no chance to verify if they have processed the 2 other requests...

there will be no more refunds, - I lost £40 and I know beardawgs lost money too. Apparantly, they knoew they were going under and so refused to reply to any communications, and managed to palm Fair Trading off long enough to declare bankruptcy. As you say. tjobbe, a harsh lesson learnt, but for me it comes on top of an ebay scam which cost me over £400 on an imaginary SACD player, so its not been a good year for me and the internet. If there is a lesson its, stick to tried and trusted dealers, both hard and software, pay the extra and regard it as insurance.
