Bass management? I have NEVER used that. I don't use any EQ. I just play SACDS via HDMI at 176 instead of DSD.

Of course, you don't. Your room has perfect acoustics.

...The 2 receivers you mention do not suggest they accept DSD via HDMI and even if they do its likely the incoming DSD is internally converted to PCM anyway by the DACs inside the receiver, thus gaining no futher advantage to the set up you currently have...

I have been researching the Marantz DSD-capable AVRs, and a dealer that frequents the AVS forum says that the 6009 and 7009 will play pure DSD via HDMI from an SACD player.

Sure, until you use the Audyssey room correction, then it's converted to PCM.

I am not trying to start yet another debate about the merits of pure DSD. Many are resolutely insistent on the very idea of it, while some strongly prefer its sound after having actually carefully evaluated its sonic benefits against alternatives. As always, though, contrary opinions about how vitally important it is are numerous in audio.

But, I have to ask some questions. If greater sonic purity is the goal, why would one want a receiver as opposed to dedicated separates, possibly even a pure DSD DAC or a top notch player with excellent DSD DACS through a pure analog path?

In all the tradeoffs, cost constraints, channel layouts - 2 vs. 5.1, features - bass management, room EQ, etc, I myself do not find pure DSD to be the killer, overriding feature that trumps all others. And, actually I am unable to use it with Mch given its strictly limited speaker layout possibilities. That is a killer strike against it for me. So, I think other features are far more important for best sound. Others might disagree, as is their right. But, is pure DSD into a receiver including its compromises, like amps, etc. bitstreamed via HDMI - another compromise - some sort of optimum, head and shoulders above other approaches? I have not found that to be the case.

A good receiver with a pre-out is the most convenient & economical way to get excellent mch sound and especially with Sony excellent video processing.Receiver pre-out into your stereo amplifier for front speakers, the AVR will be perfectly suitable for centre & rear speakers. Separate processors and multichannel amplifiers are IMO a total waste of money.

I don't have any Bluray audio disks. I was referring to your comment on SACD.

Yes and I was referring to SACDS. On your Blu Ray player you can switch between DSD and PCM.

Audyssey is rubbish. I would rather not use it. NO EQ is best IMO.

Do bear in mind this 2.8Mhz compatibility for DSD refers to network/streamed DSD only "NOT" DSD derived from SACD.

The two receivers do accept DSD via HDMI, just like the older Marantz models!
I have had my receiver for two years now, and never use any EQ. I have treated my room instead. SACDS at 176 via Sony Blu Ray(790) sound great, but I have experimented in the past with DSD vs PCM 176. On SOME discs you can notice the difference; it varies.

Mine is good enough without Audyssey , bass management etc. I agree with Keenly on room EQ.

Actually this is exactly how my present set up is, and how I had planned to use the SR6009. With the new AVR I would gain the DSD and better matching output power to my center/rears for the 20% of the time I am enjoying multi-channel. Also, the multi-room features, plus various processing for movies seems to make this a pretty well rounded unit for the budget I have.
