Because a chamber arrangement can reveal the melodic content of an orchestral work with startling clarity, e.g. Wanderer - Christoph Prégardien, Ensemble Kontraste.

Ars Produktion's Annette and Manfred Schumacher must have considered the project sufficiently artistically worthy to accept a low return on their investment of time, money and energy.

Since the chamber arrangement fits onto a single disc, it must be performed, at the very least, "ohne zu schleppen".

well, a rather positive review on the otherwise very critical klassik.com website. The critic's reasons for being positive are intriguing...although I remain sceptical about the necessity for a chamber version of M9.
