Well, I got mine many moons ago when it was still extant from either HMV Japan or Amazon Japan (I assume I can say that as we're talking about an issue long out of circulation). I say this not to rub your nose in it, but to say if you ever see one changing hands, PCM source or not, jump at it. I have owned the UK issue original Philips LP and then a couple of RBCD remasters - all had the same dull, rather veiled sound which was a tragedy given the performance. However, I'm not sure to this day that I can think of a SACD re-issue which has so dramatically transformed a recorded performance as this - why on earth they didn't re-issue it as part of the early SHM-SACD programme heaven only knows. But it's a classic and you never know ...

Those early (2004) JSACD releases are all long out of print and impossible to find today.

Since this recording has been reissued many times, maybe it will come out again on BD-A, hi-rez files or (SHM-)SACD.

The transfers that Universal used for those early SACDs weren't that great, so I would not consider this SACD as a definitive reissue. Don't jump on it if you see one on Ebay for $200 ...

Fingers crossed for a reissue, then. Thanks for the responses.
