Here we go again - yet another reissue... It never ends!

Analogue, in your review you state that these flat transfers "from analogue master tapes" (as the credits put it) done at Sterling Sound would not be original masters because that's how compilations are made. Maybe compilation LPs were typically sourced from 2nd or 3rd generation masters, but surely the tape research done for this release would have sourced the original mix tapes, if they still exist (the '73 remix of the first record, and the one and only mix of the 2nd). Comparing this with the MoFi releases, can you be sure that the differences are due to different tape generations rather than something else (EQ for example)? I don't have the MoFi's myself, but I like this release, and it sounds pretty analogue to me. There is no credit for mastering, only editing in DSD. So seemingly they didn't EQ this release, but I'll bet MoFi did theirs.

This is not a compilation album. It is the first two Allman albums combined onto one disc.

Compilation albums are greatest hits type affairs where there are several, sometimes many, master tapes and in the day typically what would be done is that the compilation 'master' was assembled from the original source tapes, making a new master for the comp, which would then by definition be a second (or sometimes lesser) generation tape.

No need for that here as the simplest route would be to take the master tapes for the first two albums and do a straight transfer to DSD.

Both MoFi releases say "Original Master Recording", so one would hope the original mix tapes were also used for this release, or at least for Idlewild South. Has anyone else compared the MoFi CD of the latter with this?
