Hi all...

Recently I have been trying to replace my Sony DVP-NS500V which had stopped working. I got a few players through eBay which did not work for one reason or another. All I want to be able to do is to play a few multi-channel SACDs. What would be a suggestion for the most economical player to buy to be able to do this?

Thank you so much...

Greg

On HDMI, the Sony 5100 is a great choice.

Of course, if you don't have HDMI, things get a little more complicated. You can seek out a used low-range Sony player from a couple of years ago, like the 595. I don't know if there's a good more recent option cheaper than an Oppo.

Hi...

Thank you for the quick reply. That is the BluRay player that I have and for the life of me I could not get the multi-channel layer to play on this device. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks...

If your BDP is set for SD video output of 480i/p or 576 i/p, BDP will only output 2-channel SA-CD. To enable multi-channel SA-CD, configure for HD video output of at least 720P.

BTW, which BDP do you have?

Hi...

I have the Sony BDPS5100 Blu-ray Player. I'm sure it's set to output the higher resolution. I will check tonight and see. This is so frustrating! Thank you....

And you're using HDMI?

Also, don't forget to install latest patches for the BDP-S5100. That would probably be an issue if you haven't done so already.

Just got an update about 2 weeks ago.... I'm really stumped. It's got to be a setting some place, but I've tried everything!

Is it possible that you've set the 5100 to output DSD but your AVR can't handle DSD? MCH PCM should sound pretty similar.
