I am more than curious why there is no surround track on this BDA since one was included in the original CD/DVD release and, imho, was vastly superior, for fully appreciating this particular music, than the stereo tracks.

In total agreement, Kal.

Supposedly, HFPA will rectify the lack of mch on existing mch SACD releases by re~releasing these BD~A titles next year which will include the "missing" or "excluded" multichannel tracks.

An unfortunate situation, indeed!

Is this really the case? If so, I am really unhappy. I have ordered a copy on the strength of some information that I found which suggested that it was available multichannel! I must admit I never thought for one moment that anyone in their right mind would release this disc in anything but multichannel, that said however I should not be shocked as in my view UMG has handled these releases really badly. The lack of definitive information about whether discs are in surround or not and the thinking that these should be stereo only releases is bonkers. You would never believe that they are supposed to be professionals and have an idea of music and the market and what customers really want, but then I guess they never thought to ask! Oh well, if this is only in stereo it mind end up on ebay, no way do I want this in stereo only!

Regretfully, Tourboots, ALL the UMG Classical BD~As lack multichannel so for future reference, I would avoid purchasing them unless they are appearing for the first time on BD~A (and lacked a previous mch release).

Maybe somebody could create a web site or something that tabulates this information ...

Zeus, I think you and Polly are doing a fine job with your current BD~A listings. Vespers clearly states stereo in your title listing and anyone who has followed this site should've been aware of lack of multichannel on ALL classical Universal BD~As (until they get their act together and re~release them again in multichannel).

Even POP/Rock titles which were previously multichannel (with few exceptions) are being released in stereo, as well.

The original "special packaging" of this superb performance was an RBCD complete program and a bonus DVD with SOME (not all!) of the selections rendered in (as I recall) lossy 5.0 surround. The surround DVD does sound quite impressive, though.

Correct. OTOH, someone did already make he surround mix which, presumably, was not lossy until compressed for the mastering.

I ordered the disc before the blu ray listings started here, it is being shipped in from overseas, so is taking an age to arrive.

I was very upset when I popped this disc into my player only to discover that there was no surround track. But then I realized that I'd made a mistake: I thought I was ordering a BD-A of the Striggio Mass in 40 parts, which of course included a bonus DVD which included some material in surround (although it always bugged me that it only included a Dolby track and not DTS.) I was thrown off by the fact that the cover art is so similar on both releases.

Well, the music on this disc is just as enjoyable as on the other, so I can't complain too much, I figured. But then I was flipping through the booklet and found A PHOTO OF THE MUSICIANS PERFORMING IN A CIRCLE AROUND THE CONDUCTOR. So the music was performed in surround, which means that it was recorded in surround, and released on a format which supports 7.1, but nevertheless the disc only contains three completely redundant stereo tracks. So then I got upset again.
