Oh and the 5.1 of Quadrophenia was mixed by Bob Pridden (who did the stunning new Tommy HFPA remix and remixed the Quadrophenia movie for the new Criterion BD-V).

It does seem that Universal is finally getting its ducks all in a row......finally.

Ashame that SONY is being relatively secret about it's BD~A lauch........what is multichannel and what is not. Thriller in 5.1 could be the BD~A of the year. I'll even dig my Brazilian platform shoes out of mothballs for that one.

And still nothing from Warners.....not even a peep. Stranger still.

It does! Well said!

a great shame.. but we just have to be patient. I doubt there'll be much 5.1 to start with but once we all start carping on about it on forums and Facebook (as happened with Universal and the HFPA's) I'm sure more 5.1 will be forthcoming from Warners and Sony.

All great titles, especially the Joni Mitchell 'Court and Spark'.

Not sure if multi-channel masters exist in any format for these, but the top two on my list are:
1) 'Aja' - Steely Dan
2) 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' - Simon and Garfunkel*

EDIT: *

Addendum:
3) 'Who's Next' - The Who
4) 'This Was' - Jethro Tull
5) 'Benefit' - Jethro Tull
6) 'Stand Up' - Jethro Tull
7) 'Aqualung' - Jethro Tull
8) 'Living in the Past' - Jethro Tull
9) 'Songs From the Wood' - Jethro Tull
10) Minstrel in the Gallery' - Jethro Tull

.... in fact, why don't they simply do a Tull box set, à la Doors, and be done with it?

Audio Fidelity is currently working on Time Life compilations. Yeah, the same trash promoted on infomercials.

No chance they get their hands on quad masters of popular albums.

Benefit & Aqualung are out there in 5.1 already (the former on DTS DVD-V, the latter in a super deluxe type box set in both BD-A and DVD-V form) both superb Steven Wilson remixes imho :-)

As Ian suggested in his above post (#53), Adam, time for a deluxe Tull box set in LOSSLESS sound much like the Doors box set (on either DVD~A and/or SACD 5.1).

Lossy sound in 2014 as good as it might sound would sound exceedingly better LOSSLESS, wouldn't you agree?

Slight correction: Benefit is 2CD + DVD-A (and not only DVD-V) & Aqualung is 2CD+DVD-A + BD-A +LP(no DVD-V again in this set) so none of these contains lossy format. I own TAAB (CD/DVD-A) as well and again it does not contain anything lossy (except for RBCDs).

All of these are marvelously done and I currently dig them out on my portable right now.
I doubt that any other of early TULL albums will see such treatment in the near future. Abovementioned three albums are counted as TULL canon and although STAND UP belongs there too, I feel that They have already released it in a form of deluxe edtion few years ago, thou lossy only but with spectacular carnegie concert from 1970 which has put some added value to this gem.

Anyway Prog albums deserves some kind of "definitive" treatment in a modest pace that suits me perfectly. Who needs meticulous boxes for completists drawn from old production tapes just for the sake of money(-laundering)?

The Benefit & Thick As A Brick 5.1's are on DVD-Video not DVD-Audio.

The Aqualung box has a BD-A and a DVD-Video (not DVD-Audio).

An "Audio DVD" on a DVD-Video disc, the kind the 5.1's of Benefit & Thick As A Brick are on, is not technically a DVD-Audio disc with Hi-Res (in PPCM, MLP, etc. i.e. Lossless).

Also, I wouldn't discount the prospect of more 5.1 Tull just yet..

when I load these discs to my OPPO display says and recognizes BENEFIT/AQUALUNG/TAAB as DVD-A......

While CARAVAN - ItLoRaG has only lossy formats J-Tull DVD-As contains lossles data, you can count on it.

I am a person, who tries to verify every bit of information before posting it or making final decision either political/professional or concerning simply entertainment.

I would not survive next minute without it.

Thanks for the info Sylvian but honestly I don't need to consult anything (I'm not bigging myself up as some walking encyclopedia oracle of these modern day surround discs!) but I've over 250 DVD-Audio (in-Spec, MLP Lossless/Packed PCM, Advanced Resolution, honest to goodness DVD-Audio!) discs and 1,000's of DVD-Video discs, I can tell the difference :-)

I'm gonna let it go after this as it's not helpful to the topic in hand - those Tull discs are lossy DVD-Video discs (the 5.1 at any rate). There isn't anything inherently bad/wrong about these discs being lossy (they sound great) but that's what they are.

This is why I love SACD.. One disc can do it all (i.e. Redbook, Hi-Res Lossless Stereo, Hi-Res Lossless Surround) and so much more straightforward! Ah well..
