Now that the wonderful Suzuki Bach Cantata series is complete on 55 BIS CD/SACD can we expect more of the secular works from the same source ? As far as I can tell we so far have 3 issues in this series - one CD and two SACD. Any chance of Vol 1 receiving an SACD issue ?

I sure hope this series keeps on truckin'. John Gardiner enthuses repeatedly over BWV 198, the so-called Funeral Ode, in his quasi-biography of Bach. So when I checked BIS's index I was bummed to learn Suzuki and company never recorded it -- it was written for someone's funeral, not for a church service, and so it's actually a secular cantata. I hope BIS records it because apparently Bach never recycled its music into any of his church cantatas proper.

We will, don't worry - maybe we already have, I am not sure. We will complete also the secular cantatas.
And there'll be other, more unexpected things from that source - more to follow later...
