Now that "Out to lunch" is being available on HDtracks, it makes less sense to release it on SACD.

I bought The Shape of Jazz to Come from ORG, and LOVED it- it gave me a whole new appreciation for the recording. While I regret no Free Jazz or This is Our Music from them on SACD (and where's the love for "Change of the Century"?- an even better album than "This is Our Music" to me), I am grateful that at least they got ONE of his classic quartet's titles out at a combo of reasonable price and high quality in this format.

Such is the world of multi-format collecting- SACDs, LPs, and DVD-As for me (and eventually downloads, I imagine)- and multiple editions. Haven't heard the 45 rpm 2-LP sets of the Coleman titles, but when my turntable's back up someday, I will, at least for the ones not released on SACD- and I'm sure they will be amazing, too.

Now, everyone log off and go post stuff on their FB walls!

Here's what I just posted on ORG's FB wall. (A person named Timo Lyyra posted a link to this discussion a few days ago.)

"ORG Music's decision to discontinue production of SACDs has generated a strong response on SA-CD.net. In July 2013, I wrote a positive review of the Ornette Coleman SACD, and many SA-CD.net posters have supported the label's efforts. But as I pointed out in the discussion thread cited by Timo Lyyra, information about ORG SACDs was difficult to find, which frustrated our efforts to promote the discs.

At the time of the review I could only purchase ORG SACDs from Music Direct. I believe that many jazz fans who collect SACDs are motivated to purchase more by love of music and appreciation of excellent remastering than focus on equipment. It's a potentially larger group worldwide than 45 RPM vinyl collectors. I'm an avid vinyl listener, but I treasure good transfers to SACD of landmark jazz sessions because SACDs bring me as close as technologically possible into communication with the original performance.

ORG should reconsider its decision. Rethink your marketing; engage with social media, websites and blogs related to music listening; and iissue at least some of the titles originally slated for SACD production."

I bought SACDs of The Bridge, There’s A Riot Goin’ On and The Shape of Jazz To Come when they were first released. They sound great and I was wondering why there was a delay with the other announced titles for SACD, which is now answered by them discontinuing SACD releases. I would definitely purchase a large majority of these titles if they were released on SACD by ORG Music.

ORG is first and foremost a vinyl releasing company and their 4 SACDs were readily available from the usual suspects: Music Direct, Acoustic Sounds and Elusive disc.

Their commitment to SACD was, apparently, fleeting and that there were NO links from SA-CD net to any Amazon vendors (unlike AP and MoFi discs) was ruinous if they expected to sell these discs in any quantity.

Creating a separate division to master SACDs, ship them off to Austria for replication (unlike MoFi which now has their SACDs pressed in the USA) and then expecting instant sales gratification probably created a situation for ORG which they hadn't anticipated.

Hopefully, their previous list of upcoming (but un~released) titles might find their way to AP and/or MoFi because some of them were tantalizing, to say the least.

Who is pressing these SACDs in the US for MoFi ?
Has one of the old plants re-opened?

What I've heard from posters on this site is that SONY's Terre Haute Indiana plant was never shut down and is available for SACD replication (on a limited basis?) and unlike AP's SACDs which have that little sticker on the rear "Made In Austria," MoFi has Made in USA on the rear or all their recent SACDs.

Unless I'm interpreting Made in the USA as meaning the Mini LP casing only but usually it would have somewhere disc made in Austria (or wherever) if that's the case.

Just to confirm, does that mean their planned release of Jeff Buckley's Grace on SACD is 86'd and it will only be available on 2LP 45rpm? If so I'm relieved they're still doing the 2LP 45rpm version, but I was really looking forward to owning this great album on SACD.

They had confirmed for me via e-mail the SACD was analogue > DSD with no PCM conversion, would be a real shame this late in the game to cancel this one.

ALL future ORG SACDs have been canceled including Jeff Buckley's Grace (the ONE I really wanted, as well).

In all, ORG released four SACD titles and abruptly pulled the plug on SACD! I have all four and was amazed at the SQ but apparently interest, especially in Free form jazz titles was nil, to say the least.

But I'm sure there's more to the story than that but we'll never know!

Am hoping that Grace eventually receives an SACD release by MoFi, AP or AF.

Does anybody know a European vendor for the ORG discs? If I order from the US, I incur some hefty customs charges (anything above 22 Euros), which I want to avoid.
