I would say yes. I think all BR players are universal players, playing at least CDs DVDs and BRs. Some (most?) also SACDs.

Best bet for all those formats will be Sony BDP.

I would consider the new BDP-S6200 and the BDP-S7200 when it's released next month in the EU. Both are flagship machines in their specific areas.

EDIT: Also, both offer multi-channel DSD DSF/DFF file support via USB, as well. Just be aware that this feature is undocumented.

EDIT2: Also, undocumented multi-channel FLAC support, as well.

Although I'd bet it's very unlikely to support DVD-A, which ignores another wonderful hi-res audio format.

That format is moribund.

I've got over 250 of the buggers.. I'd still like to be able to play at least some of my DVD-A's in Adv'd Res, otherwise I'd have gone for a Sony BDP!

Excellent point.

I've two SA-CD players actually; a Sony BDP I use for multi-channel playback and an older DVD player configured for two-channel SA-CD playback. Funnily, the latter also supports DVD-A, but since I don't have any DVD-A titles it's never used for that feature.

Yes, I suppose you may be correct. After all, that's exactly what some people describe SACD as - and have been for the past 7 years + that I've been collecting the format (SACD, that is). Come to think of it - I don't think I'm mistaken in thinking I've read something similar for BD-A. Perhaps I'm mistaken?!

Anyway, I'm still enjoying all these dinosaur formats in all their glory. Dead or alive.

Apologies if this is the wrong place or this has been suggested already, however, would it be possible to split the numbers shown at the top of the page when in 'Titles' to show SACD and BluRay separately?

Whilst I welcome the arrival of another physical format for surround sound my personal preference is for SACD and I am interested to know the strength of numbers and how SACD continues to fares over the year and years to come, so it is useful to see the numbers grow. Also if for nothing else but to put paid to critics that say SACD failed or is failing.

If you select Super Audio CD or Blu-ray Audio it shows the respective number of titles for each. You can also drill down to those with Multichannel etc. Doesn't this give you what you're after?

I don't think SA-CD is going away any time soon ...

I've really valued this site for a few years now, and from what I've seen and learned on it, plus my own research, I've built up a collection of over 200 highly enjoyable SACD's, in addition to my lps and cds- and a couple dozen or so DVD-A's. While I think it's a great idea to expand the site to include other growing hi-res resources, I would chime in with the few others who have done so and suggest including DVD-A's on here. Most of the members of this site seem to regard DVD-A's as generally good-enough (or quite good) hi-res discs. While it is a nearly-dead format, there are new additions from time to time, and it's useful for individuals with universal players to know about what's been out (at least to some select degree) and what's coming out. In addition to my SACD's, which are about 80% classical, the DVD-A's have offered good rock music options to me- Beatles Love, Beck, Grateful Dead, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Steely Dan, Talking Heads, Neil Young, etc.- some of them still available at quite reasonable prices. A number of others are obviously out there as well for those who are interested- but finding them for sale or review on Amazon or ebay is sometimes complicated due to the way listings are set up. One of the wonderful things about this site is the way it streamlines research and purchase of hi-res.

A few DVD-A's (generally really good selections, to my ears) also still get released from time to time. Unless it's too much hassle for Zeus to include them (in which case I would certainly understand that), why not?

Dunno how useful this is (maybe if you want to test out your receiver functionality) but here's a page where you can see Blu-ray Audio titles by their codec/resolution:

/resolution

The data is currently incomplete so if you spot omissions, let us know in the usual way (namely 'report errors').
