Hello everyone. This is my first post. I have aquired, for free, a Denon DVD-2200. I used to have a Denon DVD-3910. On the 3910, it would convert dsd to pcm unless source direct was selected "on" in which case it sounded much better. My question is this: does the DVD-2200 convert dsd to pcm or is it true dsd. I have read that it does not convert to pcm but I would like to verify.

Try e-mailing Denon, like most Japanese & US companies they'll usually give you an honest answer.

My understanding is this model Denon is fitted with DSD-1791 Dac from Burr Brown, which would suggest to me that there is no reason it wouldnt do a DSD>>>Analog conversion internally and output this via the analog 2.0/5.1 outputs without having to go through a degrading PCM conversion first. Naturally, be sure to deactivate any EQ or Bass management or otherwise the player will have to default to a PCM conversion of the original DSD before it can be converted to analog.
