Set HDMI Audio OFF and SACD Output DSD.
You'll get DSD-Direct-to-Analog Conversion via the DACs for the Analog output,
and video-only on the HDMI output.

Welcome.
I have an Oppo 105 and soon an Oppo 105D.
My info applies to both the 103 and 105 variants.

Curious...With these settings, what happens if you want to play a movie thru the HDMI connected TV and it's speakers? Or if I have a satellite receiver connected via HDMI to an Oppo?

Sorry, but this discussion is about DSD files and SACDs.
I don't think this is the right site for discussing your questions.
I would suggest an AVS forum for that:

Understood, actually I am considering the purchase of an Oppo player specifically to play SACD and DSD files and to use it as a pre-amp/control.

But it appears that settings as you suggest are optimal for audio use only? Would it not negate the ability to hear sound through a TV/monitor's speakers connected via HDMI if I wanted to listen to my SACDs through the TV speakers? :)

There will be little sonic benefit in playing sacd through a TV set. Apart from the limited speaker technology, the tv will report to the player that it can only accept 48k/24bit audio. Everything will be down sampled. No known tv can process dsd or high resolution PCM.

I'm sure you are correct, not really my intention. Just trying to skirt the issue that this is an "SACD/DSD Only thread".

I want the best sound out of an Oppo if I buy it, directly connected to external amps via RCA cables. But I'd also want to use the HDMI out for video. Probably AVS Forum needs visited.

Also, I'm not sure how I can bypass my receiver since I use it to output video to the tv. Without a video signal I couldn't navigate to my dsd files on the usb drive.

Run a separate HDMI or RCA cables from the Oppo to the TV.

If the Oppo HDMI output is on, and it tries to connect with a TV that doesn't accept DSD, it will automatically default back to PCM, even if the Audio output is set to "DSD". According to Oppo customer service, this is done so that you won't get either no sound, or loud pops, when the DSD output tries to output throught the TV. That's why Oppo recommends that if you are outputting DSD via HDMI, that the HDMI audio output to the TV be OFF. You will still get the video output, which will give you a picture, so you can use your TV as a setup screen even thought the HDMI audio is OFF ( the video is still ON )

If you then want to play a DVD, or watch Netflix, or in any other way get audio to your TV, you will have to change the HDMI Audio output back to ON. Remember, once again, that you will need to turn the HDMI audio back off again if you want to keep getting the direct DSD output.

In theory, if your TV can accept DSD directly, then you could probably keep the HDMI audio ON all the time, but I have never confirmed this. In that case, don't forget to lower the sound on the TV to avoid getting music audio coming in through the TV speakers.

Also, if you are using surround sound, you will need to be in PCM in order to use any of the built-in adjustments for channel distance or level adjustment.

Not true. My Oppo 103 is set to DSD output and it certainly allows for distance adjustment.
