Not heard it yet, but low interest in this title cause Zander disc is very very fine.

I cannot recall if I have heard that recording but every Ozawa Mahler I do recall has struck me as perverse.

I thought his 2nd (Mahler: Symphony No. 2 - Ozawa) was notably powerful: highly effectively performed and quite dark as an interpretation, darker than any I've heard, I think, which to me is a very valid and interesting way of realizing this work (read Boulez' old texts on this work to learn why).

Many are very fine and in MCH also - which this is not. I have the RBCD and I dont think the performance is at all memorable.

I cannot give you specific instances because I have generally avoided him for more than a decade. What I can say is that I recall being annoyed by his persistent tendency to mangle small phrases and inflections so as to make them stand out and interrupt the musical flow. At the end, the performances were more memorable for their disruptions than for anything else.

I have retained a few (very few) of his recordings but none of his Mahler.

As a matter of fact, everything you say helps a lot already.

Thanks Kal.
