What a surprise - a re-issue of "The Scared Journey of Ku-Kai", this time by Columbia instead of Domo. Looking at the Amazon links also, it appears as if this has been on sale for a while. Does anyone know anything about why this album has been re-issued, how it might differ from the original Domo release, and if more from Kitaro are perhaps planned?

It was me who submitted this re-release for inclusion in the database. I found out about it accidentally. The original Domo mch sacd had been on my wish list for a long time but it was expensive due to its OOP status. And the last time I searched ebay in hope of a cheap used copy, I saw this Columbia release offered at reasonable prices. I thought Columbia acquired Domo Records and simply re-issued this title. I did not really care how it came to being, I saw it was mch and sacd, that was all I wanted to know because I assumed if it was a mch sacd, it must be the same as the OOP original. And it sounds superb. I love it. I just wish that more OOP titles would be re-released like this one so that late comers like me could get those early releases at affordable prices.

Szia Pál!

Thanks. I've owned the original Domo SACD for quite a few years now, and hadn't actually realised that it was OOP - there you go. I wasn't aware that Domo had been acquired by Columbia either - but if it helps more Kitaro music to come out on SACD (and hopefully MCH), that'd be great. Perhaps wishful thinking though! I also think this album sounds great - a really wonderful multi-channel mix too!

Szia Steve! :)
It was only speculation from my part that Columbia acquired Domo - I don't really know. But why would they release a Kitaro title otherwise? Anyway, it allows more people to get acquainted with this wonderful music and superb mix. I love the way that synth phrases start out in the front and end or echo in the rear. And the clarity is awesome, which is great because there are all those oriental acoustic instruments in the tracks.
I am ever so grateful that we still see the release of mch sacd these days - and not just classical titles.

Funny, both CDJapan and AmazonUS both show the Kitaro Ku~Kai as a 2006 release. CDJapan's current price is under $28US.

Are you sure it's a reissue?

And as stated on the cover, this is Voilume I.........I suppose Volume II was never released on SACD.

Yes, this is most certainly a reissue of the 2006 Domo sacd by Columbia. I do not own the original Domo sacd so I can not confirm this one has the same mch mix but why would Columbia invest in a new surround mix when there already is a superb 5.1 mix available? (When you question it is a reissue, you mean Columbia came out with a new product or do you mean that these 2 releases are one and the same?)
AFAIK the original RBCD album came out in 2003 then DOMO issued the sacd in 2006. This Columbia release has the following dates on the back cover:
06-8-23 framed in a rectangle then right next to it the following: the letters y and x as well as a Japanese character enclosed in a circle and 07-8-22.
The disc itself only shows the date of 2003 but the logos of Columbia Music Entertainment, DOMO and JASNAC are all printed on it.

So, I think it is a reissue of the DOMO sacd by Columbia, the reissue date is probably Aug 22, 2007. How we missed this one for so long, I don't know but it has a different UPC code, ASIN number to those of the original DOMO disc, and the OBI shows a serial number of COGB-15

I was about to start a discussion asking the same question as Kutyatest, but he'd already done it. After reading the comments and knowing how highly he rates the album, I bought it! There was a used copy of the original release available for £9.25 delivered, so plumped for that. Cheers Steve :)

Windhoek, I am sure it will bring you many hours of happy listening. This disc has achieved demonstration status in my collection (mch mix).

Steve, I just noticed you call this title the SCARED Journey of Ku-Kai. A typo I'm sure :)

Yes - most definately a typo! How embarrasing! I'm not very good at "typing", and it's all done two-fingered.

Being serious for a moment though, this is an album that I can nearly always listen to, as opposed to those discs where I have to be in a particular mood. I find the temple bell/gong very restful - a really beautiful sound.

If more Kitaro music is released on a hi-res (and particularly MCH) format, I'd definately buy them.

Someone already voted against this sa-cd: " 1 of 2 recommend this sa-cd ". I was the first one (and so far the only one) to recommend it. I wonder what the problem is with this release. Why wouldn't one recommend it? A mystery to me.
