Later after I have heard the entire disc, I will write my own review however I will just comment that when Castor says "The sound captured by the Ondine engineers at the Centre for Fine Arts, Brussels is very good indeed...." - he is indulging in fairly serious understatement.

This is superb (multi-channel) sound. The treble is sweet, highly resolved, detailed - the bass is firm not flabby and has really good reach. Percussion instruments are of "oh wow" quality and I guess that just about sums it up sound wise, for the sound, I can only say "Oh Wow!"

Nice to be accused of understatament in my review!
Most people who post reviews on this site seem to get criticised for overstating recording quality.
Glad you enjoyed this SACD as much as I did.

Yes, I am sure I did - I finished last night by listening to the "Book of Visions". This is music that deserves to be widely heard. I am going to give it at least one more listen before I try to write a review that will do it all justice. Hope everyone who reads this realizes that this is something they owe it to themselves to acquire asap!

I've liked whatever I've previously heard by this Finnish composer -- and this disc received an excellent review elsewhere too -- so I went to my usual SACD outlet on-line only to find that they don't as yet stock it. As I'm getting the next set of "Living Stereo" discs as well as two others (a Hyperion and a BIS) from there, it would be nice to be able to add this one to the list too. They only list one Ondine (the Eschenbach/Philadelphia) but I'll keep trying. I might end up going elsewhere.

Thanks for the info. I guess it's a matter of not wanting to open another account!
