Discussion: Debussy: Piano Works - Ronan O'Hora

I saw no point in reviewing this recording since it was clear to me that two of the three reviewers really had no idea what they were talking about with regard to the sound of this SA-CD. Only Brian hears what I do. Somehow I missed that review since I based my order for this one on the two earlier "helpful" reviews.

Making matters worse for me is that I did not recognize this recording as one that I had purchased years ago in the CD format. I had been looking for a good single disc collection of Debussy's piano music, and the content on this one appealed to me.

I am, furthermore, surprised that so many, relatively speaking, have actually recommended this recording. Don't misunderstand me, Ronan O'Hora's playing is excellent, it's just the sound quality is downright terrible — or maybe it is just that my own listening standards are much higher than those who reviewed the disc.

This is my reference standard for Debussy Piano Works:
http://www.chandos.net/details06.asp?CNumber=CHAN%2010743

I've downloaded them in 96/24 PCM FLAC format from Chandos, doubled the PCM sampling rate and transferred the lot in re-sampled FLAC format to 64 Gb USB 3.0 flash memory module.

Sounds absolutely wonderful and I've never heard a better performance of these works. Bavouzet knows what he's doing with these! : )

Only problem for some here is, it's not SA-CD. They don't know what they're missing.

Thank you! Of course, Bavouzet's Ravel SA-CD is marvelous, but I never thought to look at Chandos since I live in the USA.
