Very interesting. So orchestral includes choral as well? Cool.

At a stroke, this substantially extends the range of Holst music that could appear in future discs. Hymns from the Rig Veda, anyone?

Long may this fine series continue!

What with Robert's forthcoming Britten string music disc (and tasty world premiere), together with his recent quartets release, this looks like being a great month for aficionados of 20th century English music.

It is I believe a completion of the survey started by Richard Hickox. Andrew Davis is no Richard Hickox regrettably, in fact he always 'gets up my nose' with his supercilious attitude so I am glad he's not doing LNotP this year

Indeed, you are correct - it was started by Hickox and the BBC Welsh Orchestra, whilst Volume 2 was Davis conducting the BBC Concert band. This volume 3 does, at least, feature your nose-botherer(?) with the full-on primo BBC band.

As for Davis, his character or naso-infiltrative tendencies do not overly worry me - I just want the music!

After all, if we judged recorded music on the basis of the character of the conductor or composer, then none of us would ever listen to Wagner again. Whilst the plethora of truly obnoxious conductors would totally decimate our recorded repertoire!

Try not to let AD bother you too much would be my advice, therefore.

Actually the BBC Philharmonic.

Correct, thanks. The BBC Phil used to be their northern orchestra, the Concert is their light music resident orchestra for R2.

Easy confusion when the Beeb, bless it, still miraculously manages to have five orchestras: - the full-on industrial strength Symphony, the Scottish, the Welsh, Philharmonic (or Northern as was) and Concert.

Not forgetting the BBC singers, of course.
