Yeah, buy them instead from CD Universe for $8.39 (at least for the upcoming batch) using the links provided ... and support this site at the same time!

My favorite RCA Living Stereo SACDs:

RAVEL: Daphnis et Chloe - Munch, Boston Symphony.
I know of no better performance and the soundstage is huge with very realistic sonics.

BARTOK: Concerto for Orchetra, Music for Strings; Hungarian Sketches - Reiner, Chicago Symphony.
Fantasic performance and superb sound.

MUSSORGSKY: Pictures At An Exhibition and other Russian works - Reiner, Chicago Symphony.
Another 2 LPs on one SACD, and my very favorite Mussorgsky and SOTA sound, what more is there to ask for. Includes the rare and beautiful Polovski March which was not included in the Polovtsian Dances.

RIMSKY-KORSAKOV: Scheherazade - Reiner, Chicago Symphony
My favorite Scheherazade and the sound is superb.

OFFENBACH: Gaîté parisienne - Fiedler, Boston Pops Orchestra
No one can touch Arthur Fiedler with Offenbach, all the RCA books say this is the most realistic sounding of all the Living Stereos. I love it!

HI-FI FIEDLER - Fiedler, Boston Pops Orchestra
Spectaculuar sounding with killer performances, however there is some very slight overload distortion in climaxes.

RHAPSODIES - Stokowski
Great sound and this one also has some slight overload distortion. Very enjoyable otherwise!

STRAUSS: Also Sprach Zarathustra; Heldenleben
SAINT-SAËNS: Symphony No. 3 "Organ"
TCHAIKOVSKY / RACHMANINOFF: Piano Concertos
SIBELIUS / PROKOFIEV / GLAZUNOV: Violin Ctos
RAVEL: Boléro; Rapsodie / DEBUSSY: Images
BRAHMS: Piano Concerto No. 1 - Rubinstein
These are all great as well, very smooth sound and no overload.

CHOPIN: Piano Concertos Nos. 1 & 2 - Rubinstein
Not quite up to the sonics of the above LSCs but very highly enjoyable for the wonderful performances.

This should be a good start and at the bargain price you cannot go wrong.

Happy listening,
Teresa

I've got about a dozen of these recordings. Musical taste aside, all of them have super sonics. Pick whatever performance appeals to you and I doubt you'll be disappointed.

You do know, I suppose, that the Living Stereo relases are in two or three channel only. No surround.

The sound of the SACD stereo layer is pretty superior in itself. I don't think the lack of surround sound is a minus at all in these recordings.

So that should matter?

Oh dear, here we go again. It was only meant as a piece of info. Keep your shirts on please. Sometimes there is a bit to much testerone here.
Since monotone has written some reviews of surround sacd´s I just thought it might be of importance to know. OK?????

Well, I think most people can accurately assume that since these recordings were recorded only in 2 or 3 track sound that they wouldn't be a 5.0 multichannel recording. Most people here know how old these recordings are.

Hasn't stopped Universal "re-mixing" for its bargain set.
