I'm not sure why this should discourage anyone. You can get some really nice photos with digital these days, you just can't enlarge them too much (unless you're spending megabucks on high-end backs).

5 megapixels is enough to print flawless 8x10's. Unless you're a professional, you'll ultimately be disappointed with how few pictures you can fit onto a memory card with anything higher than 5. But if you're really into enlarging, someone just came out with a 39 megapixel camera: http://www.realtechnews.com/posts/2500

I've just started working with a new rag paper (Innova Smooth Cotton Natural White if anyone is interested) and have reprinted a number of my images on this wonderful paper. I'm currently offering a selected number of prints on this paper at the larger sizes (20"x24" and 24"x30") for 50% off ... for a limited time only. The images in question are:

Cape Conran 1
Cape Conran 2
Flinders Ranges 1
Kinchega 1
Mimosa Rocks 5

Personally, I'm overjoyed to see film-based photography displayed anywhere these days--even if it is on a digital medium.

I've been a photographer for over 30 years. Worked professionally for about half that time until giving it up as a career several years ago. I got out just in time to miss the digital revolution--something I do not regret in the least. I'm a film guy, having returned to my earliest interest in doing only black and white in a chemical based darkroom.

Your photos are excellent. Thanks for posting the link.

zeus, loved the Flinders photo. Told paul about it with very heavy hints. B

This image won me a couple of awards at a photography/printing trade show up in Sydney last year (totaling $7000, more than I ever won for anything in my life). I'd love to get to the Flinders (and Gammon) Ranges again to take some more but it's a bit of a hike from here. Maybe later this year. Thanks for your comments.

I've got nothing against digital, but it's clearly impractical for use on a view camera in the field ... not to mention a ridiculously expensive investment. It's ironic, but the films available today are the best they've ever been (I'm thinking Fujichrome here). For me, shooting large format colour and being able to deliver faultless 24x30 prints on rag paper is what I've long aspired to, but I have friends that still work exclusively in B&W and silver/platinum and love their stuff. There's lot of options for photography these days.

I'm originally from Port Macquarie; great to see some exceptional pics of Crowdy Bay [nice nat park with Diamond Head on the coast] and up in the ranges nr Wauchope - upper Rollands Plains - Wilson primitive forest and Werrikimbe Nat Park... makes me feel like driving up asap for a hike

I also found Kuring-gai chase Nth of Sydney a great place for photos....

Sorry to say< i have gone Digital... I was using their Velvia slide film just got to expensive to buy and process ...$50....must say I haven't looked back
In the process of getting all my slides placed on Kodak Photo CD [the professional gold disc]

dear all, got a lovely birthday present last week, - had dropped heavy hints to Paul about one of Stephen's photos (Flinders, - Brachina Gorge) and they paid off with a well framed (locally to paul) print of an excellent, strong but subtle, photograph, on v. nice paper. It now lives happily and prominently between my front speakers. Thanks for the image S, - hope you get up to the Gamnmons and, of course, to Paul's beloved Nucaleena (central ranges). Heartily recommended to everyone. Brenda
P.S. paul told me that it arrived from Aus. within a week of ordering.
