Steer clear of the Layla Blu-ray Audio disc, ghastly mastering.

Dobyblue, any chance we'll get the Eliot Schiener 5.1 mix on BD~A in hi res (and NOT DD/DTS 5.1)....in the near future?

I've been reading Quad Forum and although they're raving about the DTS Scheiner mix, I can't help but think in this day and age that for a very pricey boxset they couldn't even spring for a full 96/24 remaster.

If Mr Murphy wanted to score some points with his vociferous critics, why not announce a 5.1 BD~A DTS Master Audio version of Scheiner's Layla for later in 2014 (thus avoiding ticking off those posters who laid down some serious gelt for the flimsily put together boxset.....and who, I'm sure, would double dip for the higher res remix).

Seriously, can this Universal launch with it's 2.0 LOW DR~scored Layla BD~A get any cheesier?

I can ONLY IMAGINE what the BD~A of Imagine will sound like!

I don't want to throw some oil on the fire (I don't even know if this expression translates from french to english !) but I received both Nirvana's Blu-Ray last week and listened to them.
My conclusion after LISTENING (not looking at numbers) both albums is that In Utero has a really awesome sound quality, while Nevermind's is really average ...
Just my 2 cents ...

Did anyone purchase the Eric Clapton Box set (5RBCDs/1BD~A) of Give Me Strength and care to comment on the content/sound quality of the Elliot Scheiner 5.1 remix?

yes rammiepie, I got the box. both Quads and the ES 5.1 mix all sound absolutely stunning (PCM @96/24).. the 461 OB Quad has never sounded better (it totally trounces the old DTS CD), the TOIEC represents the least noticeable upgrade (as the old DTS CD was excellent) but it still sounds lovely and the "new" ES 5.1 of 461 sounds fabulous with a solid surround mix.

If you're into Clapton & surround, the set's unmissable imho, even if you already have both Quads in other forms and the Hybrid SACD with Climie/Guzauski mix.. fidelity is hugely improved on the 461 Quad and ES' surround mix is by and large streets ahead of the old SACD.

fred, does the blu ray also contain the original Quad mix of "EC Was Here", as well? A review critic claimed that this was also included on the Give Me Strength blu ray audio disc?

Thanks for your input.

sadly no Quad EC Was Here.. seeing as no-one in Quad circles ever knew of its existence before this box set was announced I'm assuming it was an erroneous listing and the mix most likely doesn't exist. in every other way though rammiepie its a sensational set, particularly from a surround point of view.

Congratulations, BP.....enjoy! Am anxious to hear your review of the German Jazz BD~As.

ANY sign of Imagine, Crime of the Century or Tears for Fears: The Hurting on BD~A?

Universal has been very quiet lately about these discs. Hope they're not going to pull the plug because of some bad press....some of it well~deserved might I add.

Universal has promised us more 5.1 discs. Hope they make good on their promise in 2014.

Have a Happy 2014, BP!

I almost hope they do pull the plug...

I understand your sentiment perfectly, fred, but one can only hope for a reboot with a new, 'hipper' CEO in charge who really understands the nature of hi res and what our expectations are. For Warners and Sony to enter the frey I'm sure all eyes were on Universal's attempt but with a lack of sufficient/very lackluster product, almost zero advertising and shoddy sounding discs, I hope all is NOT lost.

BD~A IS capable of superb sound but was severely let down by UMG and Mr Murphy's feeble marketing approach.

If at first you don't succeed, try, try AGAIN!

Happy New Year Fred.
