So, sit up straight or get another listening chair. Spinal degradation is a much more serious thing to worry about than sonic degradation from poor posture. Stereo listeners fortunately don't have these abidingly distressing concerns.

Poppycock, Dr. Neverno. I listen to music usually at 2-3 a.m. and by then, I'm in a "slumpy" mood. But since you're 'concerned' (?), I do have a slight curvature of the spine.

And as far as stereo listeners not possessing these "abidingly distressing concerns....." they are also missing out on the pleasures of an immersive soundfield, which, truthfully, only multichannel can afford.

And, more distressingly, Euell........you're beginning to sound like my mother who used to bark "SIT UP STRAIGHT" to my sister and I at the dinner table.

Much good that did us.

BTW, slumping in a chair can also affect stereo listeners as the padding nearest one's head can adversely "muffle" the sound. You forget, I do listen on occasion to stereo only (with the rears disengaged).

Perhaps I should invest in one of those Shaker Chairs and start leading a monastic life!

Rammiepious.

Father Knew BEST!

So, Dad was your front channel and Mom the rear. and, today you slump, so you won't have to listen to the rear. It is all becoming clear now.

And I was the phantom center of their universe.

"Children should be seen but not heard," being the mantra of our household.

Old habits die hard.

And if you really believe I was a quiet* child..............

poppycock to that.

Mr. Gibson,

Can you tell me whether the Japan SACDs of Brahms symphonies, Bruckner 9, and Rachmaninov Symphonic Dances with Rattle and the BPO were derived from a 24/44 or a 24/96 master? Thanks in advance,

Jacques

.... sorry, guys, I beg to differ. Stereo listeners can easily and critically be affected by chair slumping/poor posture. My Martin-Logans, like all big panels, are 'hot-zone' speakers for critical listening. Height of listening, distance to speakers, and proximity of cushions behind the head (even) can affect sound quality, and staging in particular. When you get it right, of course, everything snaps in place.

Almost as an antidote to this 'head clamp' listening, however, I also now use Sennheiser HD800/HDVD600 headphones. Not only can I slump shamelessly, I can now lie down, or meditate in different postures.

I have not yet tried listening underwater or whilst on a trampoline, though.

Still, score one significant plus point for cans. Bliss.
