The simplest way is to connect the analog AV output to an AV receiver/amplifier. This way you can play the stereo area of SA-CDs.
Note: some SA-CDs are stereo only but the majority of titles contain a stereo and a multichannel recording. These are stored separately on the disc. A handful of titles contain a multi-channel mix only.
The best way to enjoy SA-CDs on PS3 is by connection the console to an AV receiver through HDMI. Not all receivers are suited for this – not even all with HDMI input but most, especially recent ones. See ‘What receiver should I use?’. PS3 outputs high-resolution PCM (24-bit, 176 kHz or lower, depending on your receiver's capabilities).
This way you can enjoy the full benefit of multi-channel music from SA-CD.

I wonder if it is multi channel or just stereo?

DSD discs are currently Stereo only due to lack of space since they are uncompressed DSF or DFF. Multichannel SACDs use DST lossless compression.

Since both DSF and DFF are computer music files I think computer playback will give the best sound, there is software and DACs to play them. At one time the DSD disc was the only way to hear downloaded DSD music.

I use a Teac UD-501 DSD DAC to play 2.8MHz and 5.6MHz DSD music files. If you can play them Opus 3 has two DSD samplers in both 2.8MHz ($9.99) and 5.6MHz ($12.99). These are very reasonably priced unlike most other DSD music files. The 5.6MHz samplers offer the best sound I've heard in my system.

2L has some multichannel DSD music files, however I prefer the 24/352.8kHz DXD versions which are the same as 2L's original masters. Search for 2L test bench for free samples.

Go to the lower half of the page for DXD and DSD samples.

Britten's Boisterous Bourrée which is three minutes long is offered as follows:

DXD 24/352.8kHz - 344 MB
DFF 2.8MHz - 83 MB
DFF 5.6MHz - 190 MB
5.1 Surround DXD 24/352.8kHz - 1 GB
5.1 Surround DFF 2.8MHz - 295 MB

2L have no DSD music files, stereo or multichannel.

They would want to jump on the DSD bandwagon since the format is becoming increasingly popular, but let me repeat, they DO NOT HAVE any DSD material.

Audioholik I agree and as I clearly stated "however I prefer the 24/352.8kHz DXD versions which are the same as 2L's original masters." 2L's DSD music file downloads are from DXD 24/352.8kHz PCM masters just as 2L's SACDs are.

The Opus 3 and Blue Coast DSD downloads are from analog masters, if the source is DSD or analog I generally prefer DSD downloads over PCM downloads. In the case of 2L I preferred the original DXD 24/352.8kHz version.

So they are not *DSD music file downloads*. Period.

The situation with SACD was quite different as the physical format *required* them to convert their PCM masters to DSD for SACD delivery. But today there's no such a requirement in the computer environment.

As clearly stated in the first post they "ARE" DSD downloads from 24/352.8kHz PCM masters. DSD downloads can be from DSD, PCM or analog masters, always check for the master source if unclear.

DSD downloads from PCM don't make any sense.

2L offers a choice of the format you want their 24/352.8kHz PCM masters downloaded to your computer, from 24/96 PCM to 24/352.8kHz PCM and from 2.8 to 5.6MHz DSD.

I preferred 24/352.8kHz PCM which is the same resolution of the masters but not everyone can playback 24/352.8kHz PCM.

Like I said, it was the SACD format's requirement that forced them to convert PCM to DSD (they had no other choice), but the requirement doesn't exist in the case of music download formats.

A DSD download sourced from PCM doesn't make any sense - the DSD format was invented to bypass PCM processing. The term "DSD download sourced from PCM" is essentially an oxymoron.

What 2L is doing is unnecessary, counterproductive, and confusing for the growing number of listeners interested in DSD.
