I'll keep it very simple. If you want to own the best-sounding digital disc presentation of Exile On Main Street, this Blu-ray is it.

The Blu-ray mastering has been proven to be identical to the (pricey) Japanese import SHM-SACD, which itself has garnered heavy praise from Stones devotees and Hi-Res fans.

So save yourself about £40 quid and get the Blu-ray for a tenner (10 measely pounds.. Its peanuts!!) instead of the SHM for £50! Another HFPA no-brainer.

Shine A Light is demo worthy on this disc, I have never ever heard it sound better.

This is an outstanding album, but like the other early albums recorded on rolling stones records, the sound quality could have been a lot better. As far as RBCDs are concerned, I have the 1994 Virgin CD, the original CBS, the Austrian CBS, and a japanese version, an overall the CD version I prefer is the Austrian CBS.

As far as high resolution discs are concerned, I have the SHM SACD and this new BluRay. The BluRay sounds very similar to the SHM SACD - if you have the SACD, I would recommend buying the BluRay only if you want to rip it.

The only problem with the BluRay is the fact that many if the songs are truncated - the last 5 seconds or so are missing! As ant Stones fan knows, many of their songs really jam as they fade out - for example, You Can't Always Get What You Want on Let It Bleed has a fantastic jam as the songs fades out. I know Exile very well, it is one of my favorite albums, and having the songs end early makes it difficult to really enjoy this recording. Why did they do this?!?!
