For Starters this is a excellent transfer from Rob Loverde at Mofi.

Love it or hate it this has that classic 80's pop production. The recording was cleaned and buffed to within an inch of it's life back when it was recorded. If you like your music with an organic presentation look elsewhere. There is not even the vaguest hint of tape hiss, so the Dolby NR must have got a pretty good workout.

The DSD re-mastering really digs into the production and makes very plain (in good way) that this is an artificial studio confection of the highest order. The sound is beautifully smooth and has a very clean easy on the ear top end.

The overall sound of the record is a tale of two halves. The first half is quite lean sounding and has almost no bottom end. I'm presuming this has something to do with how this sounded on the radio back when it was released, as side one has the singles. The second side is rockier (relatively speaking) and has a thicker more meaty sound. There is even a fairly decent bottom end on some tracks.

In both instances the louder you play it the better it gets. There does not appear to be much in the way of compression so you can play it loud with confidence.

There is also a wide sound stage and the separation of voices and instruments etc. is very good.....just don't expect it to sound too real!

So if you like your soul with blue eyes you can buy this one with confidence.

Recommended.
