This is the last release of Mikhail Pletnev's new Tchaikovsky cycle, and it is true winner. I heard many recordings of this work (Jurowski (LPO), Petrenko (Naxos), Kitayenko (Oehms) and Jansons (Chandos)) and this beats all previous versions. 1) Pentatone's sound quality is outstanding, specially in 5.0 multichannel mode. Sound is fresh, clear and deep. I have Pletnev's recordings of Tchaikovsky's Second and Sixth Symphonies, and this isn't disappointing. 2) Russian National Orchestra plays magnificent! Pletnev's tempi are slower than his older recording (1994, DG), but it isn't only bad thing: emotionally moments sounds stunning and third movement's oboe solo is very beautiful. 3) The disc and booklet are packaged beautifully. Pentatone's recordings are very good, and this is also excellent. Warmly recommend!
