The material in this album is a bit, well...glib, in comparison to earlier Peter Gabriel efforts. It is akin to a person who goes from being an Angry Young Man to becoming a father, and he suddenly sees the joy and wisdom in communication and togetherness. It's a very solid album all the way around, but I personally preferred the more raw, edgy, socially conscious Gabriel of songs like, "Intruder," "No Self Control," "The Rhythm of the Heat," or "Biko." When he's singing about wanting people to Come Talk to Him or Why The Princess Should Kiss the Frog, it just loses a bit of that "pure" Peter Gabriel, in my view.
Sonically, this is probably a better than average SACD, and roughly in line with the fairly well done series of Gabriel SACDs released under the same label and all at once.
