Reviews: Joe Satriani: Engines of Creation

Performance:   Sonics:
DSD stereo, no bonus tracks, long out of print since 2000. Remastered for SACD by Mark Wilder, DSD authoring engineer Stephen Saper.

More dynamics and space than redbook CD. My copy came with a unique defect; track 4 "Until We Say Goodbye" is missing and instead track 10 "Slow And Easy" is repeated on track 7. Overall though, the sound quality is improved enough to make this a title worth seeking for those who admire Satriani and are already familiar with this album.

5 stars for performance because it's Joe and I DO like this album although it's very different from everything else he's done. 4 stars for sonics because it's stereo only - this would have sounded incredible had it been done in multichannel.

Thankfully, if you haven't picked it up already, Joe's next album after this one, Strange Beautiful Music (2002) was done in 5.1 and is one of the most highly regarded SACD's in the history of Super Audio.
