Just a brief heads-up for this new disc, as I'm sure more expert reviewers will drift along in time...
Well it's another essential recording from the vocal group Stile Antico, who have produced some beautiful SACDs for Harmonia Mundi in their time, in particular the music of the Tudor times.
I'm not a religious person at all, but this music is so captivatingly performed and recorded that you can't help but be taken along in the occasion. The group seem flawless to me and they produce a kind of time machine quality, so you can imagine yourself being there when this music was originally performed hundreds of years ago.
The DSD recording quality is exceptionally good and my Harbeths always tell me when vocals aren't right. In this case I was presented with a real treat for the ears as the natural tones of the singers came through in the ambience of the church recording venue with warmth and clarity.
Highly recommended for fans of Stile Antico's other discs, as well as anyone who wants to try out the genre but doesn't know where to start.
